Carlisle Placepot picks: Tom Segal attempts to crack the £50,000 guaranteed pot

Caldwell Potter's debut over fences, and for Paul Nicholls, is clearly the highlight of the Carlisle card and provided he gets round safely, he should prove way too good for the opposition in the novice chase (12.55). 

He's a Placepot banker and so is Gamesters Guy in the following novice hurdle (1.25) after his hugely encouraging debut over hurdles at Bangor recently. 

The other four races that make up the Placepot are handicaps and so need more work, although having said that, Illico De Cotte made an impressive chasing debut at the track recently and will be hard to keep out of the frame in the staying chase (1.55), despite a 7lb rise in the weights.

It always seems to be a good day for the Skeltons these days and along with Illico De Cotte they saddle Pembroke in the 2m1f handicap hurdle (2.30). He's been disappointing considering he started 9-2 favourite to win the 2023 County Hurdle, but he retains plenty of ability and didn't run too badly in the Welsh Champion Hurdle on his comeback run. 

He goes into the perm with Bertie's Ballet, who has dropped to a good mark and shaped as if he were returning to his best last time.

In the opening handicap hurdle (12.20) course-and-distance winners Zwicky and Horsesomeharry might be the two to concentrate on, while the concluding Placepot race (3.00) is of low quality but the finish might be fought out by Dusautior and Don Brocco.
