Ayr Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway's selections for a £100,000 guaranteed pool on Gold Cup day

The Tote are putting up a £100,000 guarantee for the Placepot on Gold Cup day at Ayr and the opening mile handicap (1.15) looks like a good opportunity for Mirsky to build on his second in a hot contest at York’s Ebor meeting that has thrown up three subsequent winners.

The Doonside Cup (1.50) comes up next and this looks ripe for an upset. Sons And Lovers is not without a chance and it’s also worth including the classy but long-absent runner Eydon.

The Silver Cup (2.25) is as open as the big race itself and at least two are needed. Emperor’s Son is totally unexposed and could be ahead of his mark, while Roberto Caro also appeals.

The Firth of Clyde (3.00) feels like a good opportunity for a banker because Sky Majesty looked smart when winning on her debut at Newbury and is open to plenty of improvement.

I don’t have a strong view on the big one, the Ayr Gold Cup (3.35). That being said, I’ll be putting three into my perm, with Room Service, Jehangeer and Orazio the trio making the cut.

There could be a big payout on offer provided you can get through the last leg (4.10), so it’s worth putting two in the perm. Redarna and The Caltonian are the pair who appeal the most.
