Ayr Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his selections for a £50,000 guaranteed pool

Deputy betting editor

The Tote’s £50,000 Placepot guarantee is at Ayr on Friday and the opening 7f nursery (2.03) kicks things off. With nine going and three places on offer it’s worth banking on Cymbidium.

Another nine are set to go to post in the 6f nursery (2.33), but this one is a little trickier. Recent Carlisle winner Stirrup Cup looks capable of better, while Candy is also included.

Uncle Don makes plenty of appeal in the 5f Harry Rosebery Stakes (3.05) and this is another race where the place terms look favourable. With that in mind he should be another banker.

The 5½f Listed race (3.40) comes up next and Rage Of Bamby is capable of going well judging on her win at York in July. The progressive Gutsy Girl looks the best alternative.

The Bronze Cup (4.15) is the most difficult race in the bet, so let’s put three into the perm. Diligent Resdev is lightly raced and unexposed, so goes in alongside Heroism and The Ridler.

Jim Goldie usually targets this meeting and his Braes Of Doune goes in for the closing mile handicap (4.45). It’s also worth including the ultra-consistent Jewel Maker, who is often placed.
