Ffos Las Placepot: Paul Kealy tackles a competitive-looking card

Given the field sizes, Ffos Las looks the best place to go for a Placepot despite the uncertainty over ground conditions.

We begin on a good note as I strongly fancy Saint Palais in the opener (1.55). However, as it's a 14-runner handicap, we had better include some cover and recent chase winner Joueur Bresilien could provide the biggest danger.

Back in novice company, Gipsy De Choisel looks banker material in the next (2.25). He was only fifth in a Market Rasen handicap last time, but that race couldn't have worked out any better.

We'll bank again in the next leg (3.00) as Landofsmiles will prove hard to kick out of the frame if he is in the same form as when cantering home at Chepstow 11 days ago.

The following maiden hurdle (3.30) is weak but doesn't feature a horse that you could describe as really solid, so I'll go with two. Road Senam is just about the form horse, while Mont Saint Vincent is entitled to step up on his recent hurdles debut.

Oneupmanship and Tallow For Coal should be good enough to get us through the next (4.07), so it's on to the West Wales National for the final leg (4.37).

It's easy to see why Volcano is favourite, but he had a hard race last time, so my two against the field are main fancy Amateur, and Bob Mahler, who was just starting to get going when brought down in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham.
