'She is a filly that can only improve' - Justin O'Hanlon with the ones to follow from last week
Madam Jess
Trainer: Declan Queally
8th,
2m½f fillies' and mares' bumper, Galway, September 9
This Galway bumper often produces a nice type or two. This newcomer was never a factor in this contest under Ray Barron. She was held up off the pace and was struggling to make any progress from the rear on the downhill run inside the last half a mile, but from the turn into the straight she did start to make a little headway and her strongest furlong was her last one as she kept going to finish eighth, beaten 25 lengths.
It would be difficult to argue she will improve dramatically enough to win a bumper next time, but she looks sure to improve enough to win a race or two in due course. She has a nice mix in her pedigree, by Elzaam out of a half-sister to useful stayer Laws Of Spin.
