Blue Point has been progressing well, but the last Gimcrack winner to take this was Rock Of Gibraltar in 2001, and before that it was Mill Reef.
In the past decade eight of the Irish-trained winners have run –mainly winning – in the Futurity and National Stakes. Churchill has been a clear-cut winner of both those races.
Mehmas did his best to intimidate the Ballydoyle colt in the National, but Churchill pulled away impressively in the seventh furlong and is difficult to oppose with his high-quality credentials.
