Winner, Sidney Banks Novices’ Hurdle, 2m3½f, Huntingdon, Friday, February 8

A competitive field assembled for this Listed race, and Kim Bailey’s Vinnie Roe gelding maintained his unbeaten record. Always well placed, he travelled strongly and measured his hurdles with aplomb. He had most of his opponents under pressure on the final bend and ran out a decisive winner. His trainer feels he perhaps lacks the experience for Cheltenham and may wait for Aintree, but he is very talented.

Western Ryder was settled towards the back and looked a lot happier on the slightly better ground than he had encountered in the Tolworth. He moved up to a challenging position but was never able to make a serious impression on the winner. This trip is clearly ideal for him and quicker ground will be in his favour.
