Asuncion rises to the occasion just in time

There was a remarkable finish to the 2m3f handicap chase at Market Rasen. Refused A Name looked well on his way to victory after mastering Bertenbar and more than £31,000 was traded on him at 1.01 on Betfair after he jumped the last fence with daylight to spare. However, Asuncion, who had appeared to be going up and down on the spot in third for a long way, suddenly picked up to such effect on the run-in that he made up several lengths and shot past Refused A Name in the final strides. The winner was done at 1,000 (£14 traded), while both the third and fourth were also matched at odds-on. Another 1.01 was beaten at the track as Jaunty In Flight was overhauled on the run-in by Crafty Roberto (60) in the 2m handicap hurdle.

It was hard work for London Prize in the novice hurdle at Leicester, but he finally got on top of Moscato to improve Will Kennedy to 4-7 when riding for Ian Williams at Leicester in the last five seasons. The runner-up was backed down to 1.2 - the second successive race he has traded at long odds-on in defeat.
