Gary Moore's horses were flying on Saturday and Kansas Du Berlais can add to the yard's recent haul in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle (3.05) at Lingfield.

Moore landed a couple of the races on Sandown's Tingle Creek card and Kansas Du Berlais had his form franked in the Pertemps qualifier at that meeting.

My selection couldn't lay a glove on Operation Manna when fourth at the Esher track on his return, but the winner managed to follow up off a 9lb higher mark in a much better race on Saturday.

He is entitled to step forward for his seasonal return, something another of the stable's talented four-year-olds did in no uncertain terms two days ago, with Spirit D'Aunou bolting up after badly needing the run when fourth at Cheltenham on his comeback.

The handicapper has eased Kansas Du Berlais 2lb in the weights, a mark 3lb lower than when he was sent off the well-backed 11-2 favourite to beat talented Nicky Henderson-trained pair Under Control and Iberico Lord in Sandown's novice handicap final in April.

I'd expect this youngster to be contesting much better handicap hurdles later in the season. For that to occur, he will need to leave this mark of 114 well behind.

There are a couple who catch the eye at Ayr and Dunnet Head is expected to add to his last-time-out Carlisle success in the Coral Racing Bet Bundles Handicap Hurdle (1.50).

Dunnet Head landed a bumper in good style on his debut in 2022, but didn't build on that in his first two starts over hurdles.

It was a different story on his seasonal return and handicap debut in November, though, as he capitalised on an enticing mark of 106 when the subject of strong market support.

The way Dunnet Head ate up the ground over 2m1f at Carlisle suggested he would stay much further and I'd anticipate further improvement for this extra three and half furlongs.

The five-year-old's pedigree suggests as much as he is closely related to Colin Tizzard's former Kauto Star Novices' Chase winner Royal Vacation, who recorded his best Racing Post Rating in Taunton's Portman Cup over 3m4½f.

After just four runs, Dunnet Head should have plenty more progression for Iain Jardine and can defy a 4lb higher mark.

Ned Tanner also appears to have an excellent chance in the Coral Racing Club Handicap Chase (1.20) earlier on the Ayr card.

Trainer Nick Alexander has scored with three of his last four runners (two at healthy odds), and Ned Tanner appeared to be crying out for a stronger stamina test when staying on into second over 2m5½f at Kelso last time. Granted an extra half a furlong, I'm sure he would have got the job done.

Stepping up to 3m and returning to Ayr, a course he won at when last seen there in 2022, is exactly what the doctor ordered.

He retains the capacity to improve as a chaser and the form of his game second to subsequent three-time winner Richmond Lake at Haydock in March off this mark looks hot.

It's over to Chelmsford for the final wager as Battleofbaltimore has a good chance in the Support The Injured Jockeys Fund Nursery Handicap (5.30).

The Dylan Cunha-trained two-year-old showed little in his first few starts at sprinting distances, but took a good leap forward when upped to a mile in a handicap over this course and distance last time as an unfancied 33-1 chance.

He is clearly quirky as he ducked right at the start and gave away quite a lot of ground, so it was encouraging how he regathered himself to take up the running and never threw in the towel when headed.

Battleofbaltimore seems sure to build on his fourth-placed finish there off 1lb lower under Kieran O'Neill if the first-time cheekpieces work, and the draw couldn't have worked out any better for this front-runner as he is berthed in stall one.
