Roscioli
2.20 Lingfield
1pt each-way

The Conqueror
3.30 Lingfield
1pt win

Romilda
4.55 Kempton
2pts win

There is plenty of all-weather action, as well as three jumps meetings, to get stuck into and the mile handicap (2.20) at Lingfield throws up a solid wager in the shape of Roscioli.

I thought the quirky and reopposing Recuerdame was given a fine ride to land a similar course-and-distance contest last month as jockey Paddy Bradley made a swift and decisive move from the rear of the field before only having to worry about how he would pick the leader up in the straight.

Several runners were caught out of their ground, including Equiami and Deed Pole, who were seventh and ninth respectively turning out of the back straight before finishing fifth and third.

Both did the business next time and there must be a fair chance Roscioli can do the same given he split those two on the turn for home before hitting the frame.

Brett Johnson's five-year-old was taking a big step back in the right direction, and tackles a 0-60 for the first time here from 1lb above the race's ceiling mark.

Roscioli's sole win for Andrew Balding came off 82 on his handicap debut, and he ran two nice races off 71 this time last year.

Beating his sole rival at Brighton in the summer wouldn't have given current connections much of a thrill, but he can land a more competitive victory here.

The Conqueror won't be getting many more chances, if any, but the 1m2f handicap (3.30) does look very winnable.

Five of the 12 runners are forced to race off a mark of 46 despite being rated lower, and some of the others are out of form.

My selection did well to come from last to fourth in the final couple of furlongs over track and trip a couple of weeks ago and, although again drawn in ten, it is hoped things will pan out better this time.

I had no problem with Benoit de la Sayette sitting out the back that day as The Conqueror doesn't have much early pace, but an earlier move, like Paddy Bradley managed from a similar position on victor Star Of Epsom, was surely the play.

He was closing at the line and can be expected to finish in front of Star Of Epsom this time on 4lb better terms.

Hector Crouch, who rides Lingfield better than most, gets the leg up and trainer Jim Boyle was a neck away from making it two winners from two runners since The Conqueror last ran at Plumpton on Monday, so his yard is clearly in good nick.

It will be a surprise if we see Romilda on slow ground again as she has been soundly beaten on all three runs, but her all-weather form has a solid look to it and she can open her account in the 1m4f apprentice handicap at Kempton (4.55).

The three who finished ahead of her in a fillies' maiden at the track in September are a combined 3-4 since, while the cards just haven't fallen right the last twice.

On her penultimate outing at Wolverhampton she met plenty of trouble in the straight, having sat last in a moderately run contest, while being positioned in the final three when Oisin Murphy was dictating proceedings on an odds-on favourite at Lingfield last time out was never going to end well.

The daughter of Kingman finished well each time and could be seen in a much better light stepped up to a mile and a half on a more galloping track here.

William Haggas had the option of keeping her to a mile and a quarter in the 2.55 at Lingfield, but the trainer is long odds-on to have made the right call, particularly considering her dam and half-brother Poet's Quest stayed even further.

Jack Enright, who has ridden two winners from his last six rides, keeps the mount against fellow apprentices, and a maximum field should help him settle his filly.
