I believe it pays to specialise when it comes to betting and the two all-weather cards on Tuesday split my attention.
First up is The Conqueror, who contests the BetUK. It's Where The UK Bets Handicap at Lingfield (2.35) off bottom weight.
Chelmsford hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Jim Boyle of late (0-48 there since the start of 2019) so it may not have been a huge surprise to the selection's army of supporters that he failed to do the business at the Essex track last time, but there are reasons to expect better here.
That was his first run for 51 days and following a gelding operation, and the race itself didn't pan out well.
He was drawn in three and Paddy Bradley found himself locked away on the rail one or two further back than he'd have liked.
Kept towards the far rail and away from the action, he stuck on quite nicely in the straight to finish fifth.
The Conqueror competed in his first British handicap off a mark of 79 in April, having won three of his 12 starts in Germany, and it'll be bitterly disappointing if he doesn't at least go close off 50 here assuming Benoit de la Sayette can adopt a better early position.
My second fancy is a tad speculative, but Jack Jones is a trainer I have a lot of time for and it's possible Maharajas Express can make a winning start for him in the Build Your Acca With Bet UK Handicap at 3.35.
Navy Drums and Cryptos Dream are perhaps the most notable examples of Jones getting wins out of acquisitions from other yards and it could be a shrewd move dropping this free-going sort back to 6f having purchased him for 10,000gns at the end of October.
He lost his way for Richard Spencer but his Kempton sixth last time was a step back in the right direction.
I'm advising three wagers at Wolverhampton, starting with Churchill Bay, another recent stable switcher, in the Boost Your Acca-Fenwa With BetUK Amateur Jockeys' Handicap (5.00).
He couldn't break through for Clive Cox or Ronald Thompson but ought to be winning races for Jessica Macey this winter if his neck second over course and distance on his first start for her last month is anything to go by.
Drawn widest, he had to do a fair bit to adopt a reasonable position before the turn and it was a surprise just how well he stuck at it up the straight.
He seemed to respond well to wearing headgear (blinkers) for the first time with his usual tongue-tie.
The winner was following up and the third did the business the next day so a 2lb rise is acceptable and our pick was rated a lot higher when his five-year-old campaign began in February.
Agostino, Ramon Di Loria, Trusty Rusty, Kaidu and Speed Dial Baileys have all made the running in at least one of their last three starts and a strong pace in the Build Your Acca With BetUK Handicap (6.00) would really suit bet of the day Let's Go Hugo.
He had two of today's rivals looking on when scoring and recording a personal best over course and distance two runs ago and a different two in behind when finding one beyond recall in a similar race next time.
Ibiza Rocks has plummeted from a peak rating of 87 and opening mark of 77 for the Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero partnership to 57, and the grey could belatedly notch his second win in division one of the Bet £10 Get £40 At BetMGM Handicap (7.30).
Punting in amateur contests isn't for everyone but he was one of the best-backed horses of the day in a race of that type over track and trip last time and his seventh doesn't tell the whole story.
He once again missed a beat at the start and was one of a few pulling for their heads as they crawled early.
The pace held up with the winner, a 25-1 chance, always handy on the rail and the second making the running.
Ibiza Rocks's third at Newcastle in September reads well with the winner, second (twice), fourth, ninth and tenth successful since.
P J McDonald is a good booking and he rode a 16-1 winner for the training combination on the all-weather in June from just four rides for them.
