Stunning Kentucky Oaks win for Sheikh Fahad as Shedaresthedevil shocks big guns

Former WinStar Farm stallion Daredevil notched up a surprise one-two in Friday's Kentucky Oaks when Shedaresthedevil, carrying the silks of Qatar Racing, led home Swiss Skydiver in a thrilling Classic.

The eight-year-old son of More Than Ready, who was purchased by the Turkish Jockey Club last year, had sired the likes of multiple stakes winner Deviant and the stakes-placed Jewel Of Arabia before Friday's success story at Churchill Downs.

It was a first Grade 1 score for the Brad Cox-trained Shedaresthedevil, who was Grade 2-placed as a juvenile and struck in the Grade 3 Indiana Oaks in July before pulling off a 20-1 shock up against big hitters Gamine – who was third – and Swiss Skydiver.

Shedaresthedevil is out of the unraced Congrats mare Starship Warpspeed, who has also produced the Grade 3-placed Mojovation from three offspring to hit the track.

The mare also has an Outwork filly named Jemison, a yearling filly by Speightster, and foaled an Exaggerator filly this year. She returned to Uncle Mo this time around.

Shedaresthedevil was bred by WinStar Farm and bought by Flurry Racing Stables and Autry Lowry's Big Aut Farms for $280,000 from Hunter Valley Farm's consignment at last year's Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Qatar Racing has a share in the filly, and Sheikh Fahad was thrilled to be able to point out that both Shedaresthedevil and Qatar Racing's 2,000 Guineas hero Kameko had both also posted record-winning times.

Lowry, meanwhile, said after the success: "It's unbelievable. I knew she was an unbelievable filly. This is a very tough race, in my opinion. It's probably one of the toughest in the last ten years or so."
