'Stepping out of the shadow of her mum' - Debbie Kepitis reveals the name of Winx's daughter
The record-breaking foal out of Winx has been named Quinceanera by her part-owner and breeder Debbie Kepitis.
Kepitis had a major involvement in the partnership which owned the 25-time Group 1 winner and went to A$10 million (£4.97m/€5.99m) for her Pierro filly and first living foal in a much-publicised appearance at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. She is the highest-priced yearling sold at public auction in Australia.
Kepitis’ Woppitt Bloodstock announced the name via X on Tuesday, with an explanation of the thinking behind it.
“Named after the Latin American celebration of a girl's 15th birthday, marking her passage from girlhood to womanhood, this young lady is stepping out of the shadow of her mum Winx,” she wrote.
“Merry Christmas from ‘Quinnie’.”
Trainer Chris Waller, who likewise trained Winx, is in charge of the valuable prospect and is preparing the two-year-old for her racing career.
Winx has had a difficult start to her time as a broodmare but also produced a Snitzel colt foal last month.
