Serienholde another German purchase for Japan's Yoshida brothers

Serienholde – winner of the Preis der Diana, the German equivalent of the Oaks, in 2016 – has been sold to Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm in a deal brokered by agent Rudiger Alles.

The Yoshida family are quite the connoisseurs of German breeding, having bought other German Oaks winners such as Feodora, Salomina and Turfdonna and the country's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Danedream and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes victor Novellist.

They have been richly rewarded for being so too, and only this month Salomina featured as the dam of Salacia, a Northern Farm-bred daughter of Deep Impact who finished an encouraging fourth in the Grade 2 Tulip Sho at Hanshin, a trial for the Japanese 1,000 Guineas.

Bred and raced by Gestut Wittekindshof, Serienholde is a daughter of Germany's champion sire Soldier Hollow, source of fellow Group 1 winners Dschingis Secret, Our Ivanhowe and Pastorius.

She is a half-sister to Listed winner and Preis der Diana fourth Serienhoehe and to the useful Serienschock.

Andreas Wohler trained her to win the Listed Preis Dusseldorf en route to her Classic victory but she was no match for her rivals in the Grosser Preis von Baden and Preis von Europa on her final two starts at three.

Serienholde is due to foal to Kingman, with the produce – who will be her first – also to be owned by Yoshida.
