Hello all and welcome to our live blog for day two of Tattersalls Book 1.

Trade gets under way from 11am again today after an explosive opening day of selling on day one yesterday, headed by Newsells Park's 4.4m gns Frankel filly out of Aljazzi. The youngster was part of a 12,010,000gns spending spree by Amo Racing, while Godolphin went to 2.2m gns for Ballylinch Stud's No Nay Never colt out of Bella Estrella.

You can read sales correspondent James Thomas's main report here, while you can recap on yesterday's action with our day one blog.

Another of my colleagues, Jack Haynes, has taken a look at the rise of Kia Joorabchian in racing

Potential headline acts for day two

Lot 183
Grey filly Dark Angel - Futoon (Kodiac)
Grangemore Stud

A sister to this year's brilliant older miler Charyn, this Dark Angel filly should prove popular as a result of his Group 1-winning exploits. Charyn has landed the Queen Anne and Prix Jacques le Marois for Roger Varian and Sumbe this term, not a bad return on the 250,000gns tag from Tattersalls Book 2.

The grey is also a sister to Wings Of War, a winner of the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes and placed a further four times in Group company. Futoon's two-year-old filly, also by Dark Angel, sold to Sumbe for 850,000gns at Book 1 12 months ago.

Lot 184
B c Frankel - Gale Force (Shirocco)
Consigned by Watership Down Stud

Watership Down Stud offers this Frankel brother to top-class middle-distance performer Hurricane Lane, himself a graduate of the sale when selling to Godolphin for 200,000gns in 2019.

Hurricane Lane wore the Godolphin silks to great success, winning on his sole start at two and enjoying a barnstorming three-year-old campaign. It included winning the Group 2 Dante Stakes and then going on to land three Group 1s, namely the Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris and St Leger. He was also third in the Derby and Arc. As a five-year-old, he also won the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes.

The pair's dam was a stakes winner herself and is also responsible for this year's Doncaster Cup and Henry II Stakes winner Sweet William. The Sea The Stars gelding was also placed in the Gold Cup at Ascot and the Goodwood Cup behind the outstanding Kyprios.

Lot 188
B c Dubawi - Glass Slippers (Dream Ahead)
Bearstone Stud

This Dubawi colt is the first foal out of the top-class Glass Slippers, a daughter of Dream Ahead who landed the Abbaye, Flying Five Stakes and Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint for owner-breeder Bearstone Stud and Kevin Ryan.

The half-sister to Listed winner Electric Feel and the black-type-placed Aunt Nicola is out of the winning Night Gypsy, a Mind Games sister to On The Brink, a winner of the Listed Hilary Needler Trophy. It is a family with plenty of speed and precocity in it, while the presence of Dubawi as Glass Slippers' first mating is hardly a negative either. Glass Slippers produced a Frankel foal this year and was subsequently covered by Havana Grey.

Lot 234
B c Sea The Stars - Kitcara (Shamardal)
The Castlebridge Consignment

A Sea The Stars brother to Al Aasy, this colt looks another exciting youngster set to go under the hammer. His brother – a 300,000gns Book 1 graduate in 2018 – has been a fine campaigner for Shadwell, winning six Group 3 events and finishing a narrow second to Pyledriver in the Coronation Cup of 2021.

The pair are brothers to the Listed-placed Sea Karats, a 500,000gns Book 1 purchase a year after Al Aasy, and out of the Shamardal mare Kitcara. She is a daughter of stakes-winning Monsun mare Kitcat, a Gestut Schlenderhan-bred sister to Group winners Kalla and Karavel and a half-sister to Group 1 Gran Criterium winner Konigstiger, by Tiger Hill.

Lot 275
B c Too Darn Hot - Madonna Dell'orto (Montjeu)
Newsells Park Stud

Too Darn Hot has made a phenomenal start at stud, being represented by Group 1 winners in both hemisphere including this year's Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Fallen Angel. His champion son in Broadsiding recently created history in Australia last month as he became the first horse to win the Golden Rose on his three-year-old return.

It is therefore reasonable to assume his latest yearling batch will be popular and this well-related sort looks the part on paper at least. He is out of the Montjeu mare Madonna Dell'orto, a half-sister to the ill-fated Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Keeneland Turf Mile winner Landseer. This colt is a half-brother to two black-type winners, namely Group 2 Solonaway Stakes winner I Can Fly, also placed at Group 1 level in the Queen Elizabeth II, Sussex and Falmouth Stakes.

Lot 297
B c Dubawi - Molly Malone (Lomitas)
Baroda Stud

Consigned by Baroda Stud on behalf of Tweenhills, this colt was described by David Redvers as "as good a yearling as we've ever raised on the farm and the best one we’ve ever sent to a sale" in a recent Good Morning Bloodstock with Martin Stevens.

The colt is a half-brother to two stakes winners in Prix Corrida scorer and Prix Royal-Oak third Morgan Le Faye and Emotion, who struck in the Listed Chalice Stakes. They are out of Prix du Cadran heroine Molly Malone, a Lomitas mare who hails from the family of Monsun, Brametot and Muskoka.

Beckett to train 4.4m gns Frankel filly

Ralph Beckett (centre): selected to train Amo Racing's most expensive yearling purchase
Ralph Beckett: will train the Frankel filly out of AljazziCredit: Edward Whitaker

Following the sizzling day of trade yesterday, my colleague Peter Scargill reports that Ralph Beckett will train the 4.4m gns Frankel filly out of Aljazzi.

The Arc-winning trainer was in attendance at Park Paddocks yesterday and has recently rejoined Amo Racing's roster of trainers.

Bloodstock agent Alex Elliott said: "This filly has one of the best pedigrees, is from one of the best farms [in Newsells Park Stud] and is one of the top fillies in the book, so we owe it to her to put her into one of the best operations and that’s Ralph Beckett."

Trade is under way

Trade is under way here at Park Paddocks and a notable early lot is Lynn Lodge Stud's Mehmas filly out of Edelline (155), who sells to George Boughey for 400,000gns.

The youngster is a half-sibling to two winners and out of a Cape Cross half-sister to German Group 2 scorer Emerald Commander.

Meanwhile, Chad Brown struck for Newsells Park Stud's Frankel filly from the family of champion filly Ebadiyla (154), signing the docket at 280,000gns.

Newsells Park Stud's Wootton Bassett colt (157) is out of a stakes-placed Galileo sister to Racing Post Trophy winner Kingsbarns and a half to 2,000 Guineas hero Kameko. He duly sells to Stroud Coleman for 575,000gns.

Charyn's sister upcoming

Following the news of dual Group 1 winner Charyn's retirement to Sumbe next year, here's another reminder to keep an eye on his Dark Angel sister today. She sells shortly as lot 183.

You can read my colleague Aisling's story on the Queen Anne and Prix Jacques le Marois hero here.

New stallion

Vandeek: took his record to 4-4 with victory in the Middle Park

Cheveley Park Stud welcomes last year's unbeaten juvenile Vandeek to its roster for 2025 and the Racing Post Bloodstock team visited him this morning.

Last year's Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny winner looked a picture of contentment and calm one month into his stay at the Newmarket stud.

On his retirement, Cheveley Park's Chris Richardson said: "Patricia Thompson [stud owner] is delighted to have been able to secure Vandeek, in partnership with Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to stand at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket, making this very exciting son of Havana Grey available to British and international breeders and thus further enhancing the long established history of Cheveley Park Stud standing world-class stallions”.

The best son of Havana Grey was bred by Maywood Stud's Kelly Thomas and was a 625,000gns purchase by Stroud Coleman from the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale last April. He initially sold to Childwickbury Stud for 52,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale before heading to Glending Stables for 42,000gns when offered at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.

Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford for KHK Racing, he won all four starts at two, including the Middle Park, Prix Morny and Richmond Stakes. He was also third in the July Cup and Sandy Lane Stakes from just two starts this year.

Blandford's Brown takes early strike

Blandford Bloodstock's Richard Brown has just gone to 750,000gns for Barton Stud's Churchill brother to Hong Kong Group winner Encountered (163).

The bay is also a close relation to Richmond and Diomed Stakes winner Royal Scotsman, a Gleneagles colt who was also a narrow second to Chaldean in the Dewhurst.

Mehmas mania

Mehmas

A good few days for Mehmas continues as his filly out of Edelline sells to George Boughey for 400,000gns this morning.

As mentioned earlier, she was sold by Lynn Lodge Stud and hails from the black-type family of Racing Post Trophy scorer Commander Collins and Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Lit De Justice.

Mehmas is the sire of two new juvenile Group 1 winners this term, including Sunday's surprise Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Vertical Blue.

Amo Racing made headlines yesterday and bought another youngster by the Tally-Ho sire, a filly by Elmaliya, for a more subdued 180,000gns. Consigned by Tally-Ho, the yearling is a half-sister to Italian stakes winner Evina, while the page also contains star names such as Estimate, Enzeli and this year's Oaks heroine, Ezeliya.

Fireworks time for Charyn's sister

There was plenty to like pre-sale for the Dark Angel filly out of Futoon and her page has been repeatedly upgraded thanks to brother, a certain Charyn. She has just sold to Anthony Stroud for 2,900,000gns.

Consigned by Grangemore Stud, the grey is out of a Kodiac mare who has not only produced this year's Queen Anne and Prix Jacques le Marois winner, but also another Dark Angel sibling in Wings Of War. That one landed the Mill Reef Stakes before being sold to Hong Kong, while a now two-year-old full-sister sold to Sumbe for 850,000gns at Book 1 last year.

The grey now becomes the second highest-priced filly to sell at Book 1 this year. Aisling spoke to Guy O'Callaghan in August about the top-class miler.

The moment Godolphin strikes

The Racing Post Bloodstock team caught the moment Godolphin went to 2.9m gns for Grangemore Stud's Dark Angel sister to Charyn.

Just moments after Charyn's sister sold to Godolphin, Blandford Bloodstock went to 850,000gns for the Frankel colt out of Gale Force.

Consigned by Watership Down Stud, the bay is a brother to Hurricane Lane, a winner of the Irish Derby, St Leger and Grand Prix de Paris for Godolphin. That star was a graduate of this sale in 2019, selling for 200,000gns from breeder Philippa Cooper's Normandie Stud.

His page has received further updates this term through his half-brother Sweet William, a Sea The Stars gelding who landed the Doncaster Cup and Henry II Stakes. He also placed behind Kyprios in the Gold Cup at Ascot and Goodwood Cup.

Ecstasy for O'Callaghan

Guy O'Callaghan's first Group 1 winner has strong family ties
Guy O'CallaghanCredit: Patrick McCann

Grangemore Stud's Guy O'Callaghan was understandably thrilled with the 2.9m gns purchase for his Dark Angel sister to Charyn by Godolphin.

O'Callaghan said: "As a breeder it is what you always hope could happen, two buyers such as Amo and Godolphin going head to head, then it can go anywhere. She has been flat out since she got here, but she has never turned a hair and showed exactly the same every time – it takes a very special horse to do that."

On his nerves watching her sell, O'Callaghan added: "Don't worry I am doing cartwheels inside! I was not at Royal Ascot when Charyn won as I could not get away from home, but it is so very difficult for a horse to win there, it takes a great performance and that was special day – and days like this can't happen without that first."

This filly's dam, Futoon, has produced Mill Reef Stakes winner Wings Of War too, taking her progeny count to two black-type winners from as many runners.

On the daughter of Kodiac, he added: "Futoon is an amazing mare, her yearling of last year was special and sold well, she a Dark Angel colt at foot and is in-foal to Blue Point. He had really impressed me last year with his first crop and I booked her to him after Charyn won the Group 2 in April."

Creating quite the Storm

I must admit I was really taken with Watership Down Stud's Frankel colt, not only because he's a brother to a dual Classic hero in Hurricane Lane.

During his 850,000gns sale to Blandford Bloodstock, I thought he showed an excellent demeanour and pricked his ears throughout. I'm also an avoider of the prevailing trend towards cheap speed - not that you'd be likely to find it at Book 1.

His brother won the St Leger, Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris at three, as well as placing in the Derby and Arc, while his Sea The Stars half-brother, Sweet William, has claimed two staying Group prizes this term. He has also placed twice behind the mighty Kyprios in the Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup to boot.

Given the news about Deutsches Derby hero Palladium, who is set to go over jumps with Nicky Henderson, now is the time middle-distance devotees stick up for these performers.

Shadwell off the mark

Shadwell becomes the latest key player to strike at Park Paddocks, going to 580,000gns for Hazelwood Bloodstock's filly by Wootton Bassett (190).

The bay is bred on the Wootton Bassett-Galileo nick which has produced the likes of Al Riffa, being out of a sister to Group winners Bondi Beach and Constantinople. Those three are out of the Danehill mare One Moment In Time, herself a sister to Falmouth Stakes and Fillies' Mile winner Simply Perfect, the dam of Criterium International victor Proud And Regal.

Sheikha Hissa has taken over her late father Sheikh Hamdan's operation with aplomb and has an exciting young stallion roster to take Shadwell into the future. I recently spoke to Mark Dean and Will Wright about the history of Beech House Stud and its three sires, Baaeed, Mohaather and Mostahdaf, in a Bloodstock Big Read

Godolphin strike again, this time going to 800,000gns for Boherguy Stud's Mehmas half-brother to Mac Swiney (201), a winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Futurity Trophy.

'It's great when two operations like Godolphin and Kia lock on and take each other on'

A mighty tussle between Godolphin and Amo Racing saw the former come out on top for the Dark Angel sister to Charyn.

Following the 2.9m gns sale, Grangemore’s Guy O’Callaghan commented: “It’s great when two operations like Godolphin and Kia lock on and take each other on. That’s the dream for any commercial breeder. I just hope she goes on now and is very lucky for them.”

Happy retirement to a legend

Not strictly Book 1 business, but the retirement of the great Saint Des Saints is most certainly newsworthy.

Haras d'Etreham's son of Cadoudal is the sire of jumps celebrities such as Fastorslow, Protektorat, Djakadam, Goliath Du Berlais and Gaillard Du Mesnil, while as a broodmare sire he can count El Fabiolo, Douvan, Jonbon, Envoi Allen, Appreciate It and Saint Roi among his best performers.

A statement from the Normandy stud said: "His legacy lives up to his name, which he has carried and honoured in the best possible manner. Thank you, Saint Des Saints."
