Amo hits back with 4.3m gns purchase

Amo Racing may have been thwarted several times yesterday, but Kia Joorabchian was in no mood to be denied lot 332, going to 4.3 million gns for the Wootton Bassett colt out of Park Bloom.

Having bought the current sale topper - Newsells Park Stud's Frankel filly out of Aljazzi - on the opening day for 4.4m gns, Joorabchian almost equalled that with this Lodge Park Stud-consigned youngster.

A second million-guinea lot on the day for Wootton Bassett, the colt is out of Galileo mare Park Bloom, a sister to Oaks heroine Was, Curragh Cup scorer Amhran Na Bhfiann and Al Naamah, the most expensive yearling ever sold in Europe when making 5,000,000gns to Al Shaqab Racing in 2013.

1.6m gns for Sea Silk Road's sister

In a similar theme to yesterday, Godolphin has made a seven-figure mark, this time for the Sea The Stars sister to Prix de Royallieu winner Sea Silk Road (325).

The stunning looking filly was consigned by Kildaragh Stud and it's not hard to see her appeal. As a sister to a Group 1 winner, she holds plenty of residual value for when her racing days are done. She is out of the stakes-winning Doyen mare Oriental Magic, a half-sister to Group winner winner Oriental Eagle.

'We have had lots of the family before'

William Haggas was busy on the phone with the 1,700,000gns purchase of The Castlebridge Consignment's Wootton Bassett half-sister to My Oberon, My Prospero and My Astra

The trainer said: "She's been bought for Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy. We have had lots of the family before and she is fairly typical of them."

Haggas trains the filly's half-brother My Prospero, a winner of the Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor this year, while he also trained fellow half-siblings My Astra and My Oberon, the latter is now in Australia with Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.

Godolphin enter the fray

After spending a total of 11,050,000gns at Park Paddocks yesterday, Sheikh Mohammed's team is back for more in this session with a 600,000gns purchase of Ballyphilip Stud's Blue Point filly (315).

The bay is out of the South African Group 2 winner Nafaayes, an Exceed And Excel mare from the family of American Grade 1 winner Fabulous Notion.

Starting with a bang

It's not even midday and we have the first seven-figure yearling of the session, as The Castlebridge Consignment's Wootton Bassett filly out of My Titania (311) sells to William Haggas for 1.7 million gns.

The beautifully bred filly is out of a mare who was the first Group winner for the outstanding Sea The Stars in My Titania. That mare has fared equally well at paddocks, being the dam of three black-type winners to date, including Group 2 winners My Oberon (by Dubawi) and My Prospero (Iffraaj), both placed at the highest level. Another progeny, the Lope De Vega filly My Astra, won the Listed Rothesay Stakes at Ayr, and was also Group 1-placed when second in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.

My Titania and her three talented offspring all sported (or sport) the silks of Sunderland Holdings, who bred this filly. The mare's two-year-old colt by Night Of Thunder sold to Amo Racing for 220,000gns at this sale last year.

'A beautiful, scopey filly'

Karl Burke was not hanging around when signing for the second lot of the day just now, Highclere Stud's Night Of Thunder filly out of Group 3 winner Monica Sheriff.

The trainer told Tattersalls TV: "She's a beautiful scopey filly, she's very well bred and she could be anything over a trip later on in her career. She's been bought for an existing owner in the yard who was very keen to get her.

"I think that's the fifth or sixth we've bought and we've been sent a few as well, so it's going very well. I think they've done a great job. You used to come to Book 1 and there'd be a lot of big, scopey animals that were going to take a lot of time and I think they've got the catalogue right now, they've got a lot of speed-oriented horses in there that are very nice animals and I think that's shown in the prices. It's very competitive."

The filly is by a sire who has enjoyed a tremendous year on the track, headlined by Irish Champion Stakes hero Economics, and in the sales ring, with his first €1 million yearling. That was Ecurie des Monceaux's filly out of Group 3 winner Paix, from the family of Prudenzia, who was bought by Al Shira'aa Racing at Arqana in August.

Night Of Thunder, who stood at Darley's Kildangan Stud this year for €100,000, is now the sire of three individual Group 1 winners from 28 individual Group winners to date. He could sire his fourth top-flight winner in just over 24 hours as his unbeaten May Hill Stakes winner Desert Flower is favourite for tomorrow's Fillies' Mile.

Karl Burke off the mark

The first lot through the ring, Kildaragh Stud's filly by St Mark's Basilica (299), went the way of Shadwell for 370,000gns. She was swiftly followed by Highclere Stud's filly by Night Of Thunder (300), who made 775,000gns to Karl Burke.

The latter is out of the Group-winning Lawman mare Monica Sheriff and hails from the family of Coronation Cup and Prix Royal-Oak hero Ask.

Shadwell's new purchase is a half-sister to none other than the globetrotting Dubai Honour, a winner of this year's Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in addition to his Australian Group 1 wins.

Another star act for Newsells?

I took myself off around the sales ground earlier this morning, spotting the half-sister to Fillies' Mile winner Ylang Ylang (407) while on my travels.

The daughter of Siyouni could add to what has already been an extraordinary week for perennial leading Book 1 consignor Newsells Park Stud, following the 4.4m gns Frankel filly out of Aljazzi on the opening day.

This one is out of the stakes-placed Shamardal mare Shambolic, a half-sister to Hong Kong Group 1 winner Comic Strip and American Grade 1 scorer Laughing. Her aforementioned half-sister, Ylang Ylang, sold to Coolmore for 1.5m gns at this sale in 2022 - could she fetch a similar price?

Other notables from Newsells' draft today include a Frankel filly out of Group 3 winner and Nassau Stakes second One Voice (323), a Wootton Bassett filly out of a sister to Midday (346), and a Frankel three-parts sister to the team's first-season sire Without Parole (410).

A handy reminder for Book 2

Potential headline acts for day three

Lot 325
Bay filly Sea The Stars - Oriental Magic (Doyen)
Kildaragh Stud

A sister to last year's Prix de Royallieu winner Sea Silk Road - a 190,000gns Book 1 bargain if ever there was one - this filly looks set to command a juicier price. Sea Silk Road gained a deserved first top-level success on her final start, having placed behind Warm Heart in the Prix Vermeille, Poptronic in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks and Magical Lagoon in the 2022 Ribblesdale Stakes.

Out of the Doyen mare Oriental Magic, a stakes winner in Cologne, the pair also have a two-year-old sister, who sold to Godolphin for 575,000gns at Book 1 last year. Oriental Magic is a half-sister to German Group 2 scorer Oriental Eagle and the Group 2-placed Oriental Fox, while further down the page is Oriental Tiger, also a Group 2 scorer and third in the Deutsches Derby.

Lot 373
B c Palace Pier - Rhadegunda (Pivotal)
Hascombe & Valiant Stud

The celebrity line-up for the sale continues unabated into the third day and this colt by Darley's first-crop yearling sire Palace Pier catches the eye. By a world champion miler, he is out of Pivotal mare Rhadegunda, making him a half-brother to another world champion in Cracksman. That son of Frankel won two Champion Stakes, the Prix Ganay and Coronation Cup before retiring to Dalham Hall Stud, where he has sired the unbeaten Arc and Prix du Jockey Club hero Ace Impact.

Another half-sibling, Fantastic Moon, won the Group 3 Solario Stakes, while their dam was smart herself, winning at Listed level in France. Rhadegunda is a granddaughter of the brilliant On The House and it's a fabled Hascombe family that includes other champions such as Golden Horn and Rebecca Sharp.

Lot 401
B f Territories - Sensationally (Montjeu)
Meon Valley Stud

Territories has enjoyed another banner year through his unbeaten Prix Maurice de Gheest-winning son Lazaat and this filly is a sister to another one of his high-profile progeny.

Out of a winning Montjeu daughter of Juddmonte International winner One So Wonderful, the bay's famed sibling is Hoo Ya Mal. He won the Group 3 March Stakes, having finished second to Desert Crown in the 2022 Derby, and was also a £1,200,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott and McKeever Bloodstock at the Goffs London Sale in 2022.

Lot 407
B f Siyouni - Shambolic (Shamardal)
Newsells Park Stud

Shambolic has already become a fine stalwart for Newsells Park, with her 1,500,000gns Frankel filly turning out to be Fillies' Mile and Silver Flash Stakes winner Ylang Ylang. Her two-year-old Kingman colt Kaizen is well regarded, having sold to Qatar Racing and China Horse Club for 425,000gns at Book 1 in 2023, while it is easy to imagine this filly commanding a sizable sum.

Shambolic, who produced a Frankel sister to Ylang Ylang this year, is a half-sister to Hong Kong Group 1 winner Comic Strip and Laughing, a two-time Grade 1 winner in America.

Lot 410
B f Frankel - She's Got You (Kingman)
Newsells Park Stud

Newsells Park offers a close relation to its promising first-season sire Without Parole in the form of this John and Tanya Gunther-bred filly. By the St James's Palace Stakes winner's sire Frankel, she is out of a stakes-winning Kingman half-sister to Without Parole and to Tamarkuz, himself a winner of the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

Without Parole's first crop of runners include the Group 3 Flame of Tara and Park Stakes second Fiery Lucy, Glorious Goodwood scorer and Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes fourth Mr Chaplin, and the promising Newmarket novice scorer Sea To Sky, a Gunther homebred.

Hello all and welcome to our live blog for the third and final day of Tattersalls Book 1.

Trade gets under way from 11am again after plenty of action on Wednesday, headed by Godolphin besting Amo Racing to the 2.9m gns Dark Angel sister to Charyn.

You can read James Thomas's main report on that here

James also spoke to an emotional Emma Banks after her Dubawi colt sold to Godolphin for 2m gns. The yearling is the first foal out of Banks' Nassau Stakes winner Lady Bowthorpe.
