Put The Kettle On foal should help bring buyers to the boil in Doncaster on Friday
A selection of foals, yearlings and breeding stock is up for grabs at Goffs UK on Friday, with the second edition of the British National Hunt Breeders Showcase Sale taking place from midday.
The vast majority of the originally 90-strong catalogue are foals, and they include the second out of 2021 Champion Chase heroine Put The Kettle On.
The filly, consigned by Cobhall Court Stud as lot 9, is by Overbury Stud’s Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn.
Stowaway’s daughter Put The Kettle On, bred by Butlersgrove Stud out of Quest For Fame mare Name For Fame, was sold as a store at Goffs, where Keith Phelan sealed the deal at €22,000.
Subsequently racing for Henry de Bromhead and the One For Luck Racing Syndicate, Put The Kettle On steamed to nine wins, headed by her triumph at the 2021 festival, when she became the first mare to land the Champion Chase.
She was something of a Cheltenham specialist as she also won the Grade 1 Arkle Chase in 2020 and a couple of Grade 2s at the November meeting.
She signed off with a fifth-placed finish behind Energumene in the 2022 Champion Chase and the following month was hammered down for £380,000 to Highflyer Bloodstock at the Goffs UK Aintree Sale.
Anthony Bromley signed the docket on behalf of Simon Davies of Chapel Stud, who promptly sent her to resident sire Planteur. The result was a now-yearling filly.
Before withdrawals, Golden Horn had 15 foals in the cast, with another notable youngster being the colt (61) out of Limini, likewise a Cheltenham Festival winner having secured the Grade 2 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle in 2016.
Limini, who raced for Rich Ricci and Willie Mullins, was also placed four times at Grade 1 level. Her foal is consigned by Peel Bloodstock, while the mare has a two-year-old and yearling, both colts, by Nathaniel.
There is also a Golden Horn half-sister to Grade 1 Punchestown bumper winner Redemption Day (82) offered through Yorton Farm.
The dam, Astarabad’s daughter Cutielilou – a sister to the Grade 1 Champion Bumper winner Cheltenian – also has a three-year-old filly by Gentlewave and a filly foal by Ito waiting in the wings.
Outhill Farm offers foal and yearling full-brothers by Golden Horn out of Pearlita (3 and 78), along with Nathaniel and Blue Bresil half-sisters out of Mousetrap (72 and 84), while Ballincurrig House consigns Walk In The Park full-siblings out of Chante Neige (43 and 81).
Others who should turn heads include the Walk In The Park colt out of Quevega’s daughter Princess Vega (7) consigned by Swanbridge Bloodstock, and the Bangkok filly out of Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed The Glancing Queen (24), another offered by Cobhall Court Stud.
Ahead of the sale, there was a foal show of those involved in the catalogue on Thursday afternoon, held in association with LH Woodhouse and offering a total prize pool of £10,000.
The Richard Aston Colts' Class was won by lot 22, a son of Crystal Ocean bred by Trull House Stud and offered by Little Lodge Farm ahead of a Golden Horn (70) from Chapel Stud and a Nathaniel from Goldford Stud (28).
Mill House Stud and the Hanbury family's daughter of Nathaniel (38) scooped the Robert Chugg Fillies' Class in front of a Golden Horn (8) from the same consignor and a Stradivarius filly from Heydour Farm Stud (50).
