Well-bred filly Gleaming Crown proved the chief attraction at the Tattersalls Online January Sale which concluded on Wednesday, knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock for 49,000gns.

An unraced three-year-old filly by Wootton Bassett out of the Listed Salsabil Stakes winner Dazzling – herself a sister to the top-class Roderic O’Connor – she was offered by Kiltinan Castle Stud.

Blanford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown confirmed following the sale that Gleaming Crown was purchased on behalf of an existing client, with current plans that she will be covered this season by Darley’s exciting young sire Palace Pier.

The unraced filly boasts an attractive pedigree and is a half-sister to Group 3-placed and Group 1 fourth Bajan Girl.

Brown said: “The Tattersalls Online sales are a great addition to the industry. Online sales have been hugely successful in Australia and I can see them growing significantly over the coming years in Europe.

"The buying process is extremely easy and the whole experience is very straightforward.”

Henry de Bromhead strengthened his National Hunt squad with the acquisition of Scotcantou for 36,000gns.

The young Shantou gelding had been owned by John Moylan with trainer Eoin McCarthy and is already in the hat for the valuable Connolly's Red Mills final at Punchstown, courtesy of his victory at Galway in late October. He ran in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse on his most recent appearance.

A few of the more significant lots were bought back, although they were left open for private sales. They included the Rebecca Menzies-trained King Chaos (88,000gns), who won easily on his latest start for the yard at Southwell, as well as a breeding rights to Whitsbury Manor sensation Havana Grey (235,000gns) and Tweenhills rising star Kameko (80,000gns).

There was reasonable trade for other breeding rights, as well as quite a few of the horses in training that were offered. All told, 49 lots sold for 371,400gns, at an average price of 7,580gns.
