Dabirsim yearling filly tops low-key final session of Autumn Sale

A daughter of hot young French-based sire Dabirsim was the highlight of the final day of Arqana’s Autumn Sale on Wednesday when selling for €70,000 to Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock.

During a low-key final yearling session at the Deauville sales complex it was the Haras de Grandcamp-consigned filly, the first foal out of winning Lando mare Oliandra, that stood out.

"She'll go into training with Francis Graffard," said Boman, who added that he had purchased the filly on behalf of Zhiqiang An. "She's a really racy filly that ticked a lot of boxes and I really like her sire too - I've been trying to buy one all year."

Grandcamp resident Dabirsim was represented by the Group 3 Albany Stakes winner Different League, who is set to go under the hammer at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, among his first two-year-olds this year, a crop that has seen him earn a rise in fee from €9,000 to €30,000 for 2018.

Another of Boman's Arqana purchases recently bore fruit, as at the 2016 October Yearling Sale he purchased last month's Listed Prix des Sablonnets winner Lilac Fairy for €150,000 on behalf of the same Chinese client, who races under the name Golden East Horse.

Classic appeal

Domestic stallions were the order of the day during Wednesday's session as a short while after the Dabirsim filly had been through the ring a son of the Classic-winning sire Le Havre sold for €47,000 to Polish buyer Andrzej Zielinski.

Set to be exported to Poland, the colt will join the trainer Adam Wyrzyk and will be campaigned by owner Stall Roslonce-Pegaz, whose colours are also carrier by the country's top colt Caccini, who is also a French bred.

Another to be offered from Grandcamp, the March-born yearling is out of the placed Smart Strike mare Striking Creation from the immediate family of this year's Group 1 Prix de Diane runner-up Sistercharlie and US Listed-winning filly Create A Dream.

Le Havre's progeny had also been in demand earlier on, as Toby Jones went to €37,000 at the beginning of the sale for his son Cottun.

Out of the Montjeu mare Montebella, a two-time winner over obstacles from the Ballymacoll family of Grecian Urn, the colt was consigned by Jean-Pierre and Guillaume Garcon’s Haras de l'Hotellerie.

"He's a very athletic colt with lots to like about him. We'll bring him home and take it from there," Jones said.

Figures

On the final day of trade 164 lots from 213 offered sold for turnover of €1,262,300, up 13 per cent on last year's figure of €1,115,500. The median dipped slightly to €7,697 from 2016's day three figure of €7,968 along with the median that dipped to €5,550 from €5,750.

Across the three-day sale 466 lots sold for a total of €8,594,000, a dip of less than one per cent on 2016's total of €8,606,500, the average decreased five per cent to €18,442 from €19,340 and the median saw a reduction of €1,000 to €8,000 from €9,000.
