Bolger: New Approach is not always flavour of the month but I can't get enough

Families may ebb and flow but class invariably remains key, even if it is lurking within the back generations.

That’s an idea that Jim Bolger has long adhered too, and with great success as the mastermind behind Teofilo, New Approach, Dawn Approach, Pleascach and Trading Leather among many others.

Last Saturday, when the Bolger-breds Gear Up and Mac Swiney struck in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud and Vertem Futurity Trophy within minutes of each other, ranks highly within Bolger’s pantheon of achievements, especially as no sooner had the dust settled on those victories, than another of the trainer’s juveniles, Flying Visit, landed the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown.
