We might not see a great deal more of Wings Of Eagles' progeny on the level but the 2017 Derby winner's first crop of runners was embellished by a first stakes success as Blue Wings claimed the Listed Prix Delahante at Marseille on Monday.

One season at Haras de Montaigu yielded 37 foals before the now seven-year-old moved to The Beeches, joining his father Pour Moi on the National Hunt roster.

Blue Wings was one of the sire's three winners on the board in France so far, having broken his duck for Cedric Rossi at the same track last month.

He showed plenty of courage in the nine-furlong event to power up the inside under Franck Blondel to thwart Shadwell's Dubawi colt Asad Zabeel by a length.

Blue Wings is a home-bred for Jean-Pierre-Joseph Dubois, out of a winning Invincible Spirit mare and from the top family of Camacho and Showcasing.

The Derby was Wings Of Eagles' finest hour, as he ran only once more when a close second to Capri in the Irish Derby. He was standing at a fee of €5,000 this year.
