War Front's offspring fire on all cylinders on Irish Derby day
Sons complete swift double in Rockingham Handicap and Listed Dash
War Front's progeny made their mark on Irish Derby day at the Curragh on Saturday, with two winners and three seconds from as many runners.
Fleet Review, who was second to US Navy Flag in the Middle Park Stakes last September, led home Intelligence Cross in the Listed Dash to complete a one-two for the sire.
It was a first stakes success for Fleet Review, who is out of the Galileo mare A Star Is Born, a half-sister to Rip Van Winkle and first-season sire Le Vie Infinite, who was also a maiden winner over an extended mile for the Coolmore partners.
Intelligence Cross, meanwhile, is one of three black-type performers out of the winning Unbridled's Song mare Good Vibes after Hong Kong Classic Mile scorer Warning Flag and Oklahoma Derby runner-up Bay Of Biscay.
Coolmore homebred Battle Of Jericho had to dig deep to stave off the fast-finishing Caspian Prince in the prestigious Rockingham Handicap, with a short head separating them at the finish.
Battle Of Jericho is bred on the same War Front-Galileo cross as Group 1-winning siblings Roly Poly and US Navy Flag, as well as Fleet Review.
The Rockingham winner is a half-brother to Earring, second in the 1m1f Group 2 Kilboy Estate Stakes for fillies and mares at the Curragh, out of Together, one of two top-flight winners produced by the Pennekamp mare Shadow Song together with Jan Vermeer.
Having now won three of his eight starts, it will be interesting to see if Aidan O'Brien runs Battle Of Jericho in some of the premier sprints in Europe for which he is entered.
War Front's offspring almost completed a major handicap double with joint-favourite Most Gifted finding only her market rival Petticoat too good in Summer Fillies Premier Handicap over 7f.
Most Gifted is a Coolmore homebred, bred out of Sadler's Wells mare Gagnoa, a dual Group 3 winner who was second to wondermare Zarkava in the 2008 Prix de Diane.
What is more, War Front's progeny almost made it a clean sweep of the first three races with the USS Michigan finding only Crossed Baton's Bated Breath half-sister Viadera too good in the opening maiden, a race annexed by Intelligence Cross and US Navy Flag the past two years.
USS Michigan, a brother to Prix du Jockey Club third War Dispatch and Poule d'Essai des Poulains fourth George Patton, was bred by Joseph Allen, the owner-breeder of one of War Front's best sons in War Command.
Trained by Aidan O'Brien for the Coolmore partners and Allen, USS Michigan holds an entry in the Phoenix Stakes.
War Front is the sire of 17 top-flight winners and 109 stakes performers, and he stood his 12th season at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky this year at a $250,000 fee.
