Visinari heading for a new start with Sam Kavanagh in Australia
Grey failed to build on early juvenile promise for Mark Johnston
Visinari, who caused quite a stir on his two-year-old debut in 2019, is being sent by owner Rob Ferguson to the Australian stable of Sam Kavanagh.
Formerly trained by Mark Johnston, the son of Dark Angel clocked a brisk 1m 10.41s on his first outing at Newmarket that June and a Racing Post Rating of 99, rising to 106 when he finished a close third to Royal Lytham in the July Stakes on his next start.
A €55,000 purchase by Johnston as a yearling from Haras de Beauvoir at Arqana, he has, however, failed to win on the five outings since his debut and was tailed off in a handicap at Chelmsford in early November. Visinari has subsequently been gelded.
The news is being well-received by Kavanagh, who returned to the Sydney ranks a few months ago after serving a five-year disqualification for cobalt and caffeine offences.
"I'm very excited, I'm lucky enough that one of my long-term clients, Rob Ferguson, has decided to bring Visinari out to Australia and I was just lucky enough to get the job," Kavanagh told Racing.com.
"Rob had Tales Of Grimm with me a few years ago, who won a Scone Cup, he's been purchasing yearlings in Europe and this was one of his horses over there.
"Obviously he's lost a bit of his form. He looked incredibly talented as a two-year-old and we are incredibly excited to be given the opportunity."
