Ubettabelieveit the latest star off the red-hot Ringfort Stud production line
Derek Veitch's operation also bred leading juveniles Minzaal and Miss Amulet
A fantastic season for Ringfort Stud in County Offaly got even better at Doncaster on Friday as Ubettabelieveit became the third juvenile bred by Derek Veitch's operation to strike at Group 2 level this campaign.
The Nigel Tinkler-trained colt had already won the Listed National Stakes this season, but was sent off at unflattering odds of 40-1 in the Flying Childers Stakes on Town Moor after a below-par effort in the Gimcrack on his previous outing.
However, he proved those odds to be all wrong as he came with a storming late run to collar short-priced favourite Sacred by a short head.
The son of Kodiac joins Miss Amulet, winner of the Lowther Stakes and subsequently purchased by Michael Tabor, and Minzaal, who struck in the Gimcrack Stakes during the same York meeting, on the stud's red-hot roll of honour.
Despite having bred three of the season's leading juveniles from a foal crop that pales numerically when compared to some other heavyweights of the breeding game, Veitch struck a thoroughly self-deprecating tone as he reflected on the level of success, saying: "You'd nearly think I know what I'm doing!"
He continued: "There's a lot of luck to it beyond the knowledge and management, although you make your own luck if you work hard every day. We're just delighted that everything we're doing is being vindicated on the racetrack."
Ubettabelieveit is one of seven winners out of the Mujadil mare Ladylishandra, whose brood includes four black-type scorers. The 22-year-old is responsible for the Group 3-winning pair of Harlem Shake and Tropical Paradise, as well as the Listed scorer Shenanigans.
"We're thrilled with the timing of the update, it couldn't have come at a better time for the filly," said Veitch, who added that he is confident the youngster has all the credentials to make into a successful racehorse, even if a minor cosmetic blemish or two may temper enthusiasm somewhat ahead of her appearance in the notoriously fickle arena of the yearling sales.
"I think she's a lovely filly; she'll make into a big, strong mare," he continued. "It's nothing that would stop her being suitable for racing but she'll probably fail more than she'll pass at the sales. But she'll not fail on her long-term residual value, there are very few fillies in the sale with a page like hers."
Veitch reports that two daughters of Ladylishandra are among the 42 mares that make up the broodmare band of Ringfort and its clients. Another daughter, Tropical Paradise, was responsible for the 500,000gns Frankel colt Tony Montana.
Moreover, as if a hat-trick of Group 2-winning juveniles was not enough, Ringfort also sold the top lot at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling on Monday, when Kevin Ross paid 58,000gns for the Profitable filly out of Sassy Gal on behalf of Paul and Clare Rooney. The nursery also sold an El Kabeir half-sister to Miss Amulet to Nick Bell for 45,000gns.
"We're a commercial farm producing horses to sell to make our living," said Veitch. "That's the basis of our business, so without that we've no future in the game. But ultimately the icing on the cake is when one of those horses turns up on the racetrack and proves itself as good, if not better, than its peers for that year."
He concluded: "It's great for everybody here on the farm. If I have to go to the sales for a few days, it's somebody else that keeps the show rolling. Without those lads out in the yard doing all the hard work we'd have nothing. Results like Friday's are for everybody at the stud."
