Too Darn Hot's half-brother De Treville on the move from France to Ireland

De Treville: on the move to Longford House Stud

Too Darn Hot’s older half-brother De Treville has been transferred to Longford House Stud from Montfort Et Preaux.

De Treville is by Oasis Dream and out of the great Dar Re Mi, a half-sister to middle-distance Group 1 winners Rewilding, Darazari and Diaghilev out of a Vermeille-winning half-sister to Darshaan.

Dar Re Mi was a triple Group 1 winner on the track and has gone on to an equally successful career at paddocks.

Her six winners by Dubawi are headed by Too Darn Hot, who matched his dam’s exploits on the course with three top-level strikes and has similarly gone on to a richly rewarding second career.

Darley’s eight-year-old is one of the hottest young sires on the block, with Group 1 winners and plenty more who promise that in both hemispheres.

Another of De Treville’s half-siblings is the Musidora winner So Mi Dar, and that one's full-sister Lah Ti Dar, the Group 2 Middleton Stakes winner.

The Watership Down Stud-bred De Treville was Dar Re Mi’s first foal. He was sold to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 850,000gns to top the third and final session of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2013, and entered training with Andre Fabre for Rashit Shaykhutdinov in the following year.

He won a Chantilly maiden and finished second in the Prix des Chenes at two, and took a Longchamp conditions race and notched placings in the Prix de Guiche, Prix Paul de Moussac and Prix de la Porte Maillot at three.

With no Group-race successes to his name by the end of that Classic season, and connections no doubt eager for him to acquire one so that he could make use of that pedigree by becoming a commercially popular sire, he was sent to John Shirreffs in California and Andreas Wöhler in Germany but neither international endeavour bore much fruit.

Shaykhutdinov therefore stood De Treville himself at a negligible fee when the time came for him to retire to stud in 2018.

His first crop, conceived at Haras du Thenney at an advertised fee of €3,000, numbered 21, 13 of whom were bred by his owner.

De Treville’s second generation of 28 foals were conceived after his move to Haras du Mezeray, with Shaykhutdinov breeding all but five of them.

After four seasons at Mezeray, he was moved on again to Sumbe’s Montfort Et Preaux in 2023.

Among his best runners have been this year’s Group 3 Athasi Stakes winner Gregarina, trained by Joseph O’Brien, the Group 3-placed duo Fortune and Le Combat Continue, and the Listed-placed Diadema.

Marelie has been another flagbearer, winning three times and selling last year at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale for €150,000.

The path from Montfort Et Preaux to Longford House Stud was also taken by Recorder last year.

His fee was stipulated as private for 2024. De Treville’s for 2025 is to be announced.
