Too Darn Hot indeed! Blistering debut for juvenile colt out of Dar Re Mi

Too Darn Hot looks well named judging by the musical connections of his owner-breeders Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber, his sizzling pedigree and the blistering debut he made at Sandown on Thursday.

The two-year-old colt – by Dubawi out of the Lloyd-Webbers' brilliant racemare Dar Re Mi – is trained by John Gosden and was given a mile maiden at the Esher track as his first assignment.

He faced four rivals and none was able to put up a fight, as he raced prominently under Frankie Dettori and used little effort to take up the running two furlongs from home before stretching clear to win by seven lengths from fellow debutant Rowland Ward, a Ralph Beckett-trained son of Sea The Stars and Lingfield Oaks Trial scorer Honor Bound.

Too Darn Hot looks well up to his entries in the Champagne Stakes in September and the Derby next year.

The colt looks another bright prospect for Dubawi, the sire of 35 Group/Grade 1 winners who stands at Darley's Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket at a fee of £250,000.

He becomes the fourth winner from five runners out of Dar Re Mi, who carried the Lloyd-Webbers' pink silks to win three top-flight contests – the Pretty Polly Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks and Dubai Sheema Classic – and to finish a close third to Conduit in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

The daughter of Singspiel is also dam of this season's Listed Pretty Polly Stakes winner Lah Ti Dar, Musidora Stakes scorer and Prix de l'Opera third So Mi Dar and Group 3-placed De Treville.

She really appears to have clicked with Dubawi as both Lah Ti Dar and So Mi Dar are also by the son of Dubai Millennium – as are her yearling colt who is headed to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale and her filly foal.

Indeed, Dubawi over Singspiel seems to be a recipe for success generally, as the cross is also responsible for Group 1 winners Left Hand and Wuheida, and this year's King Edward VII Stakes victor Old Persian.

Dar Re Mi is one of four top-level winners out of Darara, a daughter of Top Ville who landed the Prix Vermeille in 1986 and joined the Lloyd-Webbers' broodmare band at Watership Down Stud after being bought by Charlie Gordon-Watson for Ir470,000gns from the Aga Khan Studs draft at the Goffs November Sale in 1994.

Her fellow Group 1-winning siblings were Diaghilev, who won the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup as River Dancer, Ranvet Stakes winner Darazari and ill-fated Dubai Sheema Classic and Prince of Wales's Stakes hero Rewilding. She is also a half-sister to the Group 1-placed pair Dariyoun and Rhagaas.

Darara was in turn a half-sister to the Aga Khan's Prix du Jockey Club winner and influential sire Darshaan and to the dam of Hong Kong Vase and Coronation Cup winner Daliapour.
