'The whole team is devastated by the news' - promising jumps sire Triple Threat sustains fatal paddock injury
Capital Stud has announced the death of its promising National Hunt sire Triple Threat, who sustained a fatal injury in his paddock at the start of this week.
The son of Monsun was a multiple Group/Graded winner in France and the US during his own racing career, including when landing the Prix Eugene Adam, and he retired initially to Haras du Mont Goubert in France.
It was because of Triple Threat's impressive record from very small early numbers that interest was stimulated in Ireland.
His first crop of 40 foals included Grade 3-winning novice chaser Mister Policeman, trained by Willie Mullins for Rich Ricci, and Sans Bruit, a winner of the Grade 3 Red Rum Handicap Chase at Aintree's Grand National meeting in April. His second crop numbers 24 and includes Gary Moore's multiple hurdles scorer Spirit D’Aunou, while his next crop was even smaller at just 17 but features David Maxwell's €230,000 Auctav graduate All In You.
Having stood for a season at Haras de Toury before his return to Haras du Mont Goubert, Triple Threat was purchased by Capital Stud last November. He covered 225 mares this season.
The Kilkenny operation's Ger O'Neill said: "The whole Capital Stud team is devastated by the news. He was very popular in his first season here and we were looking forward to covering many more mares with him in future, but sadly it wasn't to be.
"However, we look forward to seeing his first Irish foals arrive next year and we're confident they will represent him well in the sales ring and on the racecourse in the coming years."
