The Queen's Gold Cup heroine Estimate produces her first winner
Calculation is by Dubawi out of the Monsun mare
The most popular Royal Ascot winner of recent years must surely be the Queen's Gold Cup heroine Estimate, and the Monsun mare is now a winning producer after her first foal Calculation got off the mark in the 1m6½f at Doncaster on Friday.
Estimate visited Dubawi for her first covering and that has proven to be a winning formula, with the three-year-old gelding Calculation - trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy - relishing the step up in trip on his first start beyond 1m4f, winning by four and a half lengths.
The Class 4 handicap looked a competitive affair, with four of his five opponents having won previously, and more can be expected of Calculation when he is next tested.
The winner's pedigree is loaded with quality on top and bottom, with Dubawi already the progenitor of 39 elite winners, while Estimate is one of four top-flight winners for the Aga Khan's blue hen Ebaziya, also the mother of another Gold Cup hero in Enzeli as well as the top-class fillies Ebadiyla and Edabiya.
Estimate also has a two-year-old filly named Approximate and a yearling colt, both by Dubawi, and paid a visit to dual world champion Frankel last year.
