'The old adage of breeze well, sell well certainly appears to have rung true'
Sales Correspondent James Thomas analyses returns from the Goffs UK Breeze-Up
It was a game of two halves at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale in Doncaster on Thursday as a slightly sedate beginning gave way to a much more lively ending, and by the close of play the key market metrics had each hit a record-breaking level.
After the dust had settled, turnover had reached £6,495,500 (a four per cent year-on-year increase), the average was up a point at £49,208, while the median rose to £36,000, up six per cent from £34,000 12 months ago. This was the second successive year that the aggregate, average and median had all hit a new high mark.
The top of the market proved to be in rude health as 17 lots fetched a six-figure sum, more than ever before at this event, while the top price, the £230,000 given by Blandford Bloodstock for Bushypark Stables' Tasleet colt, was also up on last year, when Twilight Jet and Maglev, who both now have black-type wins to their name, shared top billing at £210,000.
