Tattersalls graduate Glen Force proves best in Bahrain's King's Cup

The progressive Glen Force proved yet another success story for the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale when landing the King's Cup in Bahrain on Friday.

The four-year-old son of Gleneagles, also a €160,000 yearling purchase by Barry Lynch from his breeder, the Irish National Stud, at Goffs Orby in 2018, was a two-time winner in Britain for Sir Mark Prescott and G C Woodall & Partners.

Having been bought at Tattersalls for 160,000gns by Oliver St Lawrence last October, the Fawzi Nass-trained Glen Force ran fifth in the Crown Prince’s Cup in January before wracking up three wins on the bounce.

Among Glen Force's rivals in the local Grade 1 mile and a half contest were last year’s winner What A Welcome, New Show and Desert Lion. The colt came home ahead of Litigator and Rayounpour, who were ridden by Andrea Atzeni and Frankie Dettori.

Winning rider Adrie De Vries said: “It means a lot to win the King’s Cup as it’s the most important race run in Bahrain except for the Bahrain International Trophy.

"He never looked like getting beat today and he is a very good horse. I grabbed the race by the horns pretty early and he saw the race out very well."

Glen Force could next head to Dubai for a clash with last year's French Derby hero and this season's Saudi Cup winner Mishriff.

De Vries added: "There is the option of the Dubai Sheema Classic, but we will need to discuss that with Fawzi.”
