Storied Flat nursery Kilfrush Stud to be auctioned in July

Kilfrush Stud, the historic nursery in County Limerick with a storied history that includes graduates such as Last Tycoon and Immortal Verse, will be sold at public auction at the Dunraven Arms in Adare at 3pm on July 24, when the property will be offered by Jordan Town and Country Estate Agents.

The stud farm is situated on 286 acres (116 hectares) and includes a Georgian residence, guest wing, gate lodge, staff houses and manager's house, as well as 73 boxes.

The 37th US president Richard Nixon stayed in the Kilfrush estate house in October 1970, while Kilfrush was converted into a full, self-contained bloodstock operation in 1978.

Among the many winners bred at Kilfrush Stud down through the years are champion miler-turned-sire Last Tycoon and the Coronation Stakes heroine Immortal Verse, while French Classic winners Caerlina, No Pass No Sale and Valentine Waltz also began life at the Limerick nursery.

The property is located just outside Knocklong village, around 24 miles from Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Club, 20 miles from Limerick and 30 miles from Shannon International Airport, while amenities include hunting, racing, golf and rough shooting.

Paddy Jordan of Jordan Town and Country Estate Agents said: "Kilfrush Stud is one of the finest estates to come on the market for some time with a classic pedigree having bred over 80 Group and stakes winners."

Kilfrush Stud was purchased by Qatari businessman Mubarak Al Naemi in 2013, and among the winners to have carried his colours is useful sprinter Hamza.
