Sizing John sibling and promising pointers headline January Sale
Last year's sale-topper Phoenix Way looks a smart prospect under rules
The premium paid for winning four-year-old pointers helped the Goffs UK January Sale reach dizzying new heights last year, when Killeagh winner Phoenix Way was hammered down to Tim Hyde of Camas Park Stud for an auction-record £270,000.
The son of Stowaway looks an exciting prospect for Harry Fry and JP McManus having won a Plumpton novice hurdle in impressive style on his third start under rules on Sunday.
The other pointer to break the £200,000 ceiling last year was Dickie Diver, who is registered in training with Nicky Henderson and who will also race in the McManus colours.
This year's sale has again attracted entries for multiple winning pointers, with further wildcard additions expected in the lead-up to the sale.
Among those that catch the eye is the Blue Bresil gelding (250), an impressive winner of his four-year-old Boulta maiden for Terence O'Brien in mid-December.
O'Brien is also the trainer of Articulum, who comfortably fended off Campeador by seven-and-a-half lengths on his second chase start at Naas on Sunday.
Following Chance Finale into the ring will be (251), a five-year-old son of Linda's Lad who "jumped for fun" according to the Irish point-to-point website when scoring in impressive style at Borris House for Mary Doyle in December.
The National Hunt foal session also contains a plethora of intriguing pedigrees, including the Flemensfirth colt foal out of dual Grade 1 hurdle winner Petite Parisienne (6), to be offered by Ballincurrig House Stud on behalf of Coolmara Stud, and the Telescope half-brother to Gold Cup hero Sizing John (96), to be offered by Ballincurrig House on behalf of breeder Bryan Mayoh.
Others foals to receive updates in recent weeks are Peel Bloodstock's Getaway filly out of Whenskiesareblue (47), a Presenting half-sister to the Christmas Hurdle heroine Verdana Blue, and Little Lodge Farm's Shirocco colt out of Early Dawne (75), a Kayf Tara half-sister to recent Cheltenham Grade 2 scorer Rockpoint and Grade 1 novice hurdle winner Santini.
The Goffs UK January Sale will be held on January 22-23 and will also feature the TBA National Hunt Stallion Showcase on the first day.
