Sister to Sea The Moon equals last year's record-breaking buy at €820,000
Gestüt Görlsdorf have two sisters, while the dam is in foal to Frankel
Sea The Sky, a sister to German Derby hero and exciting young sire Sea The Moon, lit up the BBAG Sale when hammered down for €820,000 to Dietrich von Boetticher of Gestut Ammerland, equalling last year's record-breaking purchase by Godolphin.
Covid-19 continues to affect markets at every level but demand was there at the Baden-Baden sale, with the Gestüt Görlsdorf-consigned daughter of Sea The Stars - also sire of last year's sale topper - the attention of frenzied bidding.
Niko Lafrentz of Gestüt Görlsdorf said: "We are very happy, we've got two sisters and the dam is in foal to Frankel, so what more can we want? We're independent small breeders and it pays a lot of bills.
"So far, 100 per cent of our draft has sold and most of them at better prices than we expected during these coronavirus times."
Lanwades resident Sea The Moon was an 11-length winner of the German Derby and has established himself among Europe's leading stallions, with Alpine Star providing him with a first top-level strike in the Coronation Stakes in June. His other highly rated progeny include the Lenebane Stakes winner Pondus and the Listed-placed Alignak
Gestüt Görlsdorf also consigned the third top lot in Wunderknabe, a Sea The Moon colt out of Group 3 Prix Chloe scorer Wunder, who sold for €260,000 to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock.
Anthony Stroud said: "I bought him for Sheikh Duaij and he'll go into training with Simon Crisford. I thought he was a very athletic horse, I like Sea The Moon very much and he moved very well."
A 1-2 for Sea The Stars
On an excellent day for Sea The Stars, Ashiana Star took centre stage towards the closing stages of the auction, making €380,000 to a bid from agent Alex Elliott and completing a 1-2 for her sire in the top lots stakes.
Out of the Group 2 winner Ashiana, the filly was consigned by Jamie Railton and is from the family of Group 3 winner and Group 1 third Ashrun.
Sea Bay making waves
New Bay has got off to a flying start in his freshman year and Andrea Löwe went to €155,000 to secure Sea Bay, a colt out of the Lord Of England mare Strawberry.
Consigned by Gestüt Etzean, Sea Bay is a strapping relation to the Group 2-placed San Salvador.
Lope in demand
Lope De Vega has been represented by the likes of Phoenix Stakes scorer Lucky Vega on the track this year, and demand for his stock continued with the first six-figure transaction of the day coming in for lot 49, a filly out of the Listed-winning Galileo mare Promesse De L'Aube, while Delida, a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Degas, made €270,000 to Broadhurst Agency.
