Siblings to Treve and Sottsass among the standouts at the Arqana Select Sale
Three-day yearling auction begins in Deauville on Wednesday
A reformatted yearling auction programme kicks off in Deauville on Wednesday with the three-day Arqana Select Sale.
The French sales company has catalogued 492 lots in an offering that includes the siblings to 22 Group/Grade 1 winners and the progeny of blue-chip stallions such as Dubawi, Galileo and Siyouni.
We run the rule over the entries and pick out five potential headline acts.
Lot 30
B c Frankel - Baltic Baroness (Shamardal)
Consigned by Gestut Ammerland
Frankel's current yearlings were conceived in 2018, the year his fee rose from £125,000 to £175,000 in recognition of his debut crops having contained major talents such as Cracksman, Elarqam and Eminent, as well as classy juveniles like Fair Eva and Queen Kindly.
Among the mares who visited Frankel that year was Gestut Ammerland's homebred Group 1 winner Baltic Baroness.
Baltic Baroness's first foal is Baltic Gold, a son of Golden Horn who took his record to two from two with an impressive display at Deauville last month.

Lot 149
Gr c Kingman - Manerbe (Unbridled's Song)
Ecurie des Monceaux
Another young stallion with a burgeoning reputation is Kingman, sire of this year's Group 1 winners Palace Pier and Persian King, who defeated Pinatubo in the Prix du Moulin on Sunday.
In 2017, a Shamardal filly out of Manerbe sold to the Roth family's LNJ Foxwoods through Alex Solis and Jason Litt for €450,000. Subsequently named Aviatress and sent into training with master trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre, the filly struck at stakes level when winning the Listed Prix de Saint-Cyr.
Lot 199
B c Galileo - Prudenzia (Dansili)
Ecurie des Monceaux
This blue-blooded youngster hails from a family with a rich history of success, both on the racetrack and in the Arqana sales ring. He is a sibling to seven winners, including two elite-level scores, namely his Galileo sister Magic Wand and three-parts sister Chicquita, who struck in the Irish Oaks.
In total, the progeny of Prudenzia have generated €8.195m in yearling receipts, while Chicquita set an Irish record when selling for €6m as a three-year-old at Goffs in 2013, the year of her Classic victory.
Those yearling figures include the €1.625m given for Philomene, the Dubawi filly who topped last year's August Sale when hammered down to Godolophin. The two-year-old has added further lustre to her Galileo half-brother's page, as she made a winning debut for Andre Fabre at Longchamp last Thursday.
Lot 251
Ch f Dubawi - Starlet's Sister (Galileo)
Ecurie des Monceaux
This filly is the latest offering from Monceaux's burgeoning blue hen Starlet's Sister. The dam has produced three winners, all of whom have struck at stakes level, including two who have landed multiple top-level races on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
Starlet's Sister's first foal is Sistercharlie who, despite being bred from Myboycharlie at a fee of just €6,500, has won a staggering seven Grade 1 contests for Chad Brown and Peter Brant, a record that marks her down as one of the finest mares to grace American turf in recent times.
The racecourse success of Starlet's Sister's early progeny have propelled her more recent offering into six-figure territory, with her 2018 yearling, a Charm Spirit colt, having fetched €400,000, while last year David Redvers gave €700,000 for her Fastnet Rock colt, who has been named Parliament and is in training with John Gosden.
Lot 269
B f Motivator - Trevise (Anabaa)
Haras du Quesnay
Few fillies have captured the imagination like Treve did during her glorious racing career. The mighty daughter of Motivator won six Group 1s, including back-to-back Prix de l'Arc de Triomphes, and it will be fascinating to see what the market makes of her full-sister when she is offered by the Head family's Haras du Quesnay late on Thursday.
Treve also won the Prix de Diane, the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud and two Prix Vermeilles, and has opened her account as a broodmare, with her first foal, the Dubawi colt Qous, having struck at Chantilly earlier this year.
Treve is not the only source of black type in a pedigree that would take pride of place in just about any broodmare band the world over, with her dam also having produced Treve's Listed-winning siblings Trois Rois and Trophee. The family traces back to the likes of Prix Saint-Alary winner Treble and Sprint Cup hero Tamarisk.
Other members of Trevise's brood have appeared on the public market before, albeit with mixed results. Terre, another sister to Treve, was offered at Arqana in 2015, but was led out unsold at €1.2m. However, when she was reoffered at Tattersalls some four years later she fetched 680,000gns from Hillwood Bloodstock.
Treve herself came on the market at the Arqana October Yearling Sale in 2011, where she went unsold at just €22,000. Her exploits will ensure her yearling sister is worth considerably more.
