Relations to Grade 1 stars headline 'strong' Goffs UK January Sale catalogue
Among the entries are a half-sister to Thyme Hill and relation to Bravemansgame
A stellar catalogue of 292 lots, including more than 190 National Hunt foals, have been unveiled for the Goffs UK January Sale at Doncaster later this month.
Taking place on January 24 and 25, the foals and breeding stock will sell on the opening day, while the second session will be dedicated to horses in training. The event will offer the largest line-up of foals in its history, many by some of the best jumps stallions around.
Among the high-class racemares to be offered on the first day are The Glancing Queen (Lot 210), a daughter of Jeremy whose eight career victories included Listed bumpers and chases and the Grade 2 Nickel Coin Mares' Bumper at Aintree’s Grand National meeting.
Cap Soleil (221), a five-time winning mare by Kapgarde who claimed Listed victories in two bumpers and over hurdles, and The Pirate's Queen, a daughter of King’s Theatre who also claimed black type on the track with a Listed win over hurdles, have also been catalogued.
The foal session has been supported with entries by a host of leading sires, including Blue Bresil, Buck’s Boum, Crystal Ocean, Doctor Dino, Frontiersman, Gentlewave, Getaway, Golden Horn, Jack Hobbs, Jet Away, Masterstroke, Maxios, Montmartre, Nathaniel, Order Of St George, Pether’s Moon, Planteur, Shirocco, Sholokhov, Soldier Of Fortune, Telescope, Vadamos, Walk In The Park and Westerner.
Among the foal highlights are Alne Park Stud's Walk In The Park half-brother (25) to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Nube Negra; the Glanvilles Stud's Nathaniel filly out of a half-sister to the brilliant Honeysuckle (65); Overbury Stud's Frontiersman half-sister to the top-class Thyme Hill (69); Peel Bloodstock's Kingfisher filly out of a full-sister to King George hero Bravemansgame (108); and Yeo Barton Bloodstock's Buck’s Boum colt out of a full-sister to Whisper (168).
Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent said: “This shapes as a strong January Sale catalogue and it's great to be able to assemble a line-up of this quality to start 2023.
"The 193 National Hunt foals represents the largest number of foals this sale has ever offered, which is a great advert for it, and there are some lovely types in there.
"The breeding stock session also looks strong, with some very good mares, many of which are eligible for the TBA Elite NH Mares’ Scheme, and they represent some wonderful opportunities for breeders."
He continued: "The opening day of the sale on Tuesday, January 24 will also feature the TBA’s National Hunt Stallion showcase, which will see 18 UK-based National Hunt sires stabled in Yard A and available for inspection, so there is plenty of attraction for breeders and pinhookers alike.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone to Doncaster to open the 2023 sale calendar.”
