'She's going to be fast' – hopes high for A'Ali's sales-bound half-sister
Salcey Forest Stud will offer the first-crop daughter of Cotai Glory
As the buyer of Classic heroine Laurens, Daniel Creighton knows a quality filly when he sees one.
But at the upcoming Goffs UK Premier Sale, which takes place in Doncaster on September 1-2, Creighton will be looking to sell a star rather than buy one, when his Salcey Forest Stud offer the half-sister to high-class sprinter A'Ali.
Creighton, who sourced John Dance's star mare for £220,000 at the Premier Sale in 2016, has enjoyed a fruitful association with the Doncaster auction and is hoping for another turn of good fortune with the Cotai Glory half-sister to Simon Crisford's four-time Group 2 winner.
He said of the filly, who was bred by Andrew Davis: "She’s done everything we’ve asked of her in her prep, she’s looking fantastic and I really like her as an individual. On pedigree she’s going to be fast and looks very racy, she’s a fabulous mover as well."
The Salcey Forest draft features five other lots, including a Kodiac filly from the family of Mount Nelson and Reference Point (52) and a colt from the first crop of Time Test (312), who shares his page with Rock Of Gibraltar.
Creighton has plenty to look forward to thanks to his burgeoning partnership with Davis, who has built up an eyecatching portfolio of broodmares alongside his horses in training.
"We've worked together over the last couple of years and have built up a good partnership," said Creighton. "He owns a few racehorses, including Jouska with Henry Candy, who we bought as a foal. She was third in the Cornwallis and recently finished second in a Listed race. He also has a filly called Bimble who won impressively at Goodwood.”
On what the future holds for the partnership, Creighton added: "We bought quite a few mares, including the dams of A’Ali and Bodhicitta, who won a Grade 2 easily and was second in a Grade 1.
"He’s also got a half-sister to Teofilo, she has a nice Le Havre filly who'll go to the foal sales later in the year. He’s quite a lucky man, the plan is to run it as a business but to also enjoy having horses in training too."
