Shang Shang Shang's half-sister added to Horses of Racing Age Sale

After watching Shang Shang Shang's impressive victory against the boys in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, Kentucky agent Mike Recio went in search of any relatives of the two-year-old Shanghai Bobby filly that he might purchase.

It didn't take long for Recio to track down Two Timing Girl, Shang Shang Shang's three-year-old half-sister by Two Step Salsa.

Trained by Bobby Dibona for Love Unlimited Thoroughbreds, Two Timing Girl has won one of seven starts, with $14,560 in earnings, and has been working her way back from a layoff after finishing ninth for a $12,500 claiming price in a five-furlong turf test at Gulfstream Park in April.

After initially failing to get in touch with Dibona, who Recio knew from previous dealings, the agent sent a text that said: "Hey, you're holding a potential lottery ticket."

Needless to say, that elicited a call from Dibona to Recio, who explained the development with Shang Shang Shang's victory at Ascot. After the trainer said Two Timing Girl was back in training and even entered in a low-level claiming race, Recio told him to abandon those plans and look at selling her privately.

Dibona was soon flooded with interest from other parties, and they decided the most equitable way to market Two Timing Girl was the Fasig-Tipton July Selected Horses of Racing Age Sale on July 9, a day before the July Sale of selected yearlings.

"He was flooded with calls, and we figured the best way to offer her to everybody was this sale," said Recio. "We hope Shang Shang Shang goes on, and I think she will. It's a great time to try to capitalise and raise some cash. Timing is everything."

Two Timing Girl was one of 13 late additions to the Horses of Racing Age Sale catalogue announced by Fasig-Tipton on Friday. The filly is Hip 559 in Recio's South Point Sales Agency consignment. She was bred in Florida by Tanourin Stable and is out of the Yankee Victor mare Yankee Victoria, a $193,510-earner who finished second in the Trevose Stakes. The extended female family includes Argentinian Group 1 winners Glory Seattle and The Great Day.

Although the filly is in training, considering the level at which she has been campaigned, Recio said any prospective buyers would most likely be looking at her as a broodmare prospect.

"I wouldn't say many people will be looking at her as a racing prospect," Recio said. "I think you will see some shrewd broodmare buyers shopping the market earlier than normal for some of these fillies with pedigree."
