Search on for the next Shishkin at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale
Last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner was a £170,000 purchase in 2018
This year's Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale may be taking place at Flat racing's headquarters in Newmarket but the search will still be on to find the next jumps star like Shishkin, Chantry House or Fayonagh.
The auction - which takes place from 1pm on Thursday - has an outstanding roll of honour, with graduates including last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Shishkin, who sold to Highflyer for £170,000 in 2018, and the ill-fated Champion Bumper heroine Fayonagh, who realised £64,000 to Maura Gittins four years ago.
Shishkin's Nicky Henderson-trained stablemate Chantry House, who was third in the Supreme, topped the sale when selling to Michael Hyde at £295,000 in 2018, and buyers on Thursday will be trying to identify the next star among a number of winning point-to-pointers at Park Paddocks.
Among the 45 lots on offer are the Colin Bowe-trained pair Kilbeg King (lot 16) and Fashion's Model (37), the latter a winner of the four-year-old mares' maiden on debut at Tinahely last month and out of a half-sister to 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth.
Kilbeg King, a son of Doyen and Prayuwin Drummer, was an eight-length winner of the five- and six-year-old geldings' maiden at Ballindenisk in November.
Ellmarie Holden was responsible for Jonbon, a full-brother to Douvan, who sold for a record-breaking £570,000 to JP McManus at the Goffs UK November Sale, and the handler consigns an intriguing wildcard in Sholokjack (27).
The four-year-old Sholokhov gelding was a debut winner of a four-year-old maiden at Mainstown on Sunday and is related to two winners under rules in Another Stowaway and Aurora's Dream.
Other noteworthy offerings include Guily Billy (15), a son of Coastal Path who fetched €80,000 as a store before running out an impressive winner of a Tinahely maiden for leading handler Donnchadh Doyle, and The King of Ryhope (29), a game winner at Lingstown for Chantry House's vendor Cian Hughes.
Those wishing to attend the sale have to fill out a Covid-19 sales registration and medical form, which can be found on the Tattersalls Cheltenham website.
