Sea The Moon's sister to make first appearance in France on Friday
Andre Fabre's Sea The Sky topped last year's BBAG auction
A bit of a collector's item will be at Clairefontaine on Friday when a full-sister to Sea The Moon makes her debut in the opening Prix Madina.
Sea The Sky has been set quite a standard by her brother, who was from the first crop of Sea The Stars and was a rampant winner of the German Derby. He is an increasingly respected stallion himself at Lanwades Stud, responsible for a Group 1 winner in Alpen Star.
Their dam, Sanwa, has not had a lot of luck with her progeny making it to the track. Although she did not race, the Monsun mare is from Gestut Karlshof's extraordinary family as a sister to two German Derby winners in Samum and Schiaperelli as well as Salve Regina, who claimed a German Oaks.
Sanwa's only other foal to have been seen is Sansiwa, who was older than Sea The Moon but also reached black-type level.
She belongs to Gestut Gorlsdorf, which offered Sea The Sky at last year's BBAG September Yearling Sale 2020. She was bought for €820,000 by Gestut Ammerland and has been sent to Andre Fabre.
The only other newcomer in the line-up came from the same sale. Delida, who belongs to star French footballer Antoine Griezmann, is a Lope De Vega half-sister to top German miler Degas and cost €270,000 from Gestut Roettgen.
