Record-equalling point purchase Classic Getaway ready to rumble under rules
£570,000 gelding starts off for Willie Mullins at Tipperary on Tuesday
This is more the time of year when big sales purchases are appearing in the world of the Flat but a record-setting National Hunt transfer gets his career under way at Tipperary on Tuesday in the shape of Classic Getaway.
The £570,000 that Donnchadh Doyle's winner of a Borris House maiden cost at the Goffs UK December P2P Sale at Yorton Farm equalled the sum paid for Douvan's half-brother Jonbon as the highest price for a point-to-pointer sold at public auction.
It was agent Tom Malone who came out on top for Classic Getaway on behalf of Cheveley Park Stud. Malone eulogised about the then-four-year-old, remarking: "You couldn't paint him, he's that beautiful."
Originally destined for the Gordon Elliott yard, he is now with Willie Mullins and will be ridden by the trainer's decorated son Patrick in the Junction INH Flat Race.
An eight-length winner of his point, and out of a mare who was placed in a bumper for his breeder, Daniel Fogarty, Classic Getaway is due to face 12 rivals headed by Calagogo, who has shown promise in bumpers already for Elliott and now Denise Foster.
Others in the field include recent point winner Bolintlea and Listentillitellyea, a half-brother to Mullins' very good mare Listen Dear.
