'Rare jewel' Alcohol Free to be sold at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale
Four-time Group 1 winner has sported the colours of Jeff Smith to huge success
Four-time Group 1 winner Alcohol Free will be sold at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale taking place from November 28 to December 1, featuring in the new Sceptre Session on the second day of the auction.
The versatile daughter of No Nay Never is owned by Jeff Smith and has won four contests at the highest level; the Cheveley Park Stakes at two, the Coronation and Sussex Stakes at three and the July Cup this summer at four.
The Andrew Balding-trained filly was third to the brilliant Baaeed on her most recent start in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and is on course to bow out on Champions Day at Ascot next month in either the British Champions Sprint Stakes or the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
Following her emphatic win in the July Cup, Smith said of his superstar: "This filly is something else, the way she has won that is simply incredible. She’s a champion, there’s absolutely no question in my mind."
Balding said: "She's a superstar! She is the only filly I have trained to win four Group 1s and the only horse I've trained to win Group 1s at two, three and four, which is pretty special - and we are hoping there are more to come.
"She's not only an outstanding race filly, she is also a gorgeous individual; an imposing, scopey filly who has improved both physically and mentally with age. She acts on all different types of ground and will one day let down into a fine broodmare."
Bred by Churchtown House Stud and a €40,000 purchase by Smith's Littleton Stud at the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2018, Alcohol Free is from the third crop of Coolmore's red-hot sire No Nay Never.
She is the fourth foal out of the winning Hard Spun mare Plying and a half-sister to French Listed winner Alexander James. The pair's half-sister by Gleneagles will be offered as lot 136 at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Jossestown Farm.
Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "It is an honour to be asked to offer Alcohol Free for sale at the Tattersalls December Sale on behalf of Jeff Smith.
"Jeff has been the most wonderful supporter of British racing and breeding for so many years and Alcohol Free is yet another outstanding performer to carry his famous colours following in the illustrious footsteps of some great champions including Arabian Queen, Chief Singer, Lochsong and Persian Punch.
He added: "Four-time Group 1-winning race fillies rarely appear at public auction and Alcohol Free is a rare jewel to grace our inaugural Sceptre Sessions at the Tattersalls December Sale."
