Quiet achieving Monsun stallion Noroit dies aged 21

Noroit, a jumps stallion son of Monsun who stood at Gilles Trapenard's Haras de Sivola since 2012, died on Sunday at the age of 21.

The quiet achiever was blind for the last two years of his life, but was able to carry out his duties with the assistance of his loyal stallion handler Stephane Bardel.

Bred by Gestut Zoppenbroich and raced by Gestut Park Wiedingen, Noroit was trained in Munich by Wolfgang Figge to win the Group 2 Grosser Preis der Frankfurter Sparkasse in August of his three-year-old campaign.

He placed a further three times when stepped up to Group 1 company at three and four.

Retired to stud in his native Germany in 2005, Noroit's son Shoshoni emerged as a black-type performer from his second crop, while over jumps Gilles Trapenard has bred the useful Diable De Sivola and Diplomate Sivola by the sire.

Noroit found favour among the leading jumps buyers in recent years, with Colin Bowe's winning pointer Eclair Des Sablons having changed hands for £64,000 at this year's Goffs UK January Sale, while Liss House sold two geldings by the sire for £62,000 and €50,000 apiece at this year's store sales.

Haras de Sivola still stands Victory Song, a dual Listed-winning son of Dansili out of Urban Sea's Middleton Stakes-winning daughter All Too Beautiful.
