Quickly contrasting fortunes for Darley broodmare Nafura as Real World stars
Her juvenile Profitable colt Home City was demoted in the first race at Newbury
There was a half hour or so of contrasting fortunes on Saturday for not only Saeed bin Suroor but broodmare Nafura, whose juvenile son Home City was demoted in the opening Newbury novice contest but whose progressive four-year-old Real World confirmed his Royal Ascot success in the very next race.
Profitable colt Home City had crossed the line first in the seven-furlong contest but was demoted to second due to interference. He had run in the Windsor Castle Stakes and had been second on his previous start at Yarmouth for Godolphin's longstanding trainer.
However, his two-year older half-brother Real World gained compensation for the family with a snug success over Enable's half-brother Derab in the Listed Steventon Stakes just 35 minutes later.
The son of Dark Angel, an impressive four and three-quarter length winner of the Royal Hunt Cup on his previous start, was landing his first stakes contest.
Winning rider Marco Ghiani told Racing TV: "When Martin Harley came upsides and showed me the door I thought I was in trouble, but as soon as he came out he picked up really well.
"He was shouting when we came down to the start but I love him so much."
A 33rd individual Listed scorer for his venerable sire, he is the second stakes winner for Nafura, who has also provided this season's Cheshire Oaks scorer and May Hill Stakes runner-up Dubai Fountain, by Teofilo and who carries the silks of Sheikh Mohhamed's son Sheikh Hamdan.
Nafura, a dual winning daughter of Dubawi and the unraced Alleged mare Mysterial - a half-sister to Japan's Prix de l'Abbaye and July Cup hero Agnes World - hails from a fine Darley family that includes top-class performers Dubai Destination and Librettist. She was covered by Teofilo this year.
