Listed pair among five-strong Goffs Qipco British Champions Day Sale offering
Last weekend's Coral Rockingham Stakes winner Purosangue and high-class sprinter Rogue Lightning are included in a five-strong catalogue in Saturday’s Qipco British Champions Day Sale at Ascot.
Goffs is staging the auction for the first time, having established a relationship with the racecourse for its London Sale prior to Royal Ascot each summer. It will be conducted from the winner’s podium at 11.10am, prior to the showpiece meeting.
Prior to winning the six-furlong Listed race at York, wild card entry Purosangue (5) finished runner-up on his three previous starts in the Harry Rosebery Stakes, Roses Stakes and the Molecomb, just a neck behind Big Evs. The Aclaim colt was bought for £125,000 by Richard Ryan and Opulence Thoroughbreds from Mark Grant at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale and is trained by Andrew Balding.
Listed winning-sprinter Rogue Lightning was among the first four entries received on Monday. Last seen a fast-finishing fifth in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp, the son of Kodiac (lot 3) had won his last three starts before that for Tom Clover and The Rogues Gallery. The three-year-old has won four of his nine starts and has twice previously been Listed-placed too.
The other entries include the Alice Haynes-trained Fine Interview (1), a fast-finishing second on debut at Yarmouth last month, Curragh maiden scorer Photosynthesis (2) and the winning and Listed-placed Special Wan (4).
Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby said: "Goffs is delighted to be breaking new ground on Saturday with the first Qipco British Champions Day Sale at Ascot.
"It is fitting Britain’s richest race day should host a boutique sale of such quality and we are grateful to Qipco, British Champions Series and Ascot racecourse for partnering with us on this unique event that very much follows the look and feel of the highly successful Goffs London Sale."
Horses will be available for inspection from 10.30am, 40 minutes before the start of the sale. All horses will be offered with a pre-sale veterinary certificate, while a 5 per cent agent’s commission will be available to purchasers at the sale provided they are a recognised trainer or bloodstock agent.
