'Probably the nicest foal we’ve ever bred' - Chaldean's sister to be sold at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale
A Frankel sister to 2,000 Guineas and Dewhurst winner Chaldean will be sold at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
The April-born filly will be offered by breeder Whitsbury Manor Stud, who sold Chaldean at the same event in 2020 for 550,000gns to Juddmonte.
Chaldean landed the Acomb, Champagne and Dewhurst Stakes at two for Juddmonte and Andrew Balding before bagging the 2,000 Guineas the following spring. He covered his first book of mares at Banstead Manor Stud this year.
Chaldean and his sister are out of Dutch Art mare Suelita, the dam of five black-type performers and two sons at stud. They also include Mill Reef Stakes victor Alkumait, now residing at Capital Stud, and Listed winner Get Ahead, Group 1-placed in the Flying Five Stakes; both are by Showcasing. Get Ahead sold to First Bloodstock for 2,500,000gns at last year's Tattersalls December Mare Sale and was covered by Frankel this season.
Suelita, who was covered by Whitsbury Manor's excellent young sire Havana Grey, had her Kingman filly, now a two-year-old named Kassaya, go to Juddmonte for 1,000,000gns at the sale in 2022. Kassaya was an impressive winner of her second start at Nottingham in June for Balding.
Suelita's yearling Showcasing colt will be offered at Book 1 this week.
Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "The Tattersalls December Foal Sale is the perfect stage for such an outstanding filly foal. It is rare that fillies of this calibre come on the market and as an own-sister to a Classic winner and champion two-year-old by the peerless Frankel, she is a collector’s item. It’s an honour to be offering her on behalf of Whitsbury Manor Stud and she will certainly be among the highlights of Europe’s premier foal sale.”
Whitsbury Manor Stud’s Ed Harper added: "The Frankel filly out of Suelita is very similar to her brother Chaldean in both shape and quality. She’s slightly more forward than he was at the same time as she was born a month earlier. It’s very exciting as she's probably the nicest foal we’ve ever bred."
The sale takes place from November 26-30.
