Princess Zoe delivered a five-timer in tremendous fashion when clawing back the deficit in the Group 1 Prix du Cadran, giving dual-purpose sire Jukebox Jury a first top-level win in the process.

In a remarkable story, with the five-year-old shooting up from an official rating of 64 to defeat some of the best stayers in Europe, her rags-to-riches tale began at Gestut Hony-Hof, a stud in Hessen, north of Frankfurt which houses just eight broodmares including her dam Palace Princess.

A half-sister to three winners, including Group 2 winner Palace Prince, Princess Zoe went into in training with Jean-Pierre Carvalho at two, before moving on to Tony Mullins, who afterwards said: "I know if I went to Germany, I wouldn’t have bought her".

Having struck twice at the Galway festival the plan was always to aim high, and in doing so she has added huge value to her broodmare worth. There is just the small matter of the Cheltenham Festival first, where she could take in the mares' novice hurdle.

Her pedigree would suggest she would not be out of place; Jukebox Jury sired the 2018 Triumph Hurdle scorer Farclas, as well as the useful Tiger Tap Tap.

Wonderful Tonight struck in the other Group 1 race at Longchamp, the Prix de Royallieu, giving leading French sire Le Havre his fifth individual Group 1 winner.

Out of the winning Montjeu mare Salvation, also producer of the stakes-placed Penjade, Wonderful Tonight was building on her Listed and Group 3 strikes at Deauville and Longchamp this year, and relished the step up to a mile and six furlongs. Salvation herself was placed over the distance.

Skalleti provided another boost for French-based sires when winning his second Prix Dollar, holding off the Group 1-placed Australia gelding Patrick Sarsfield.

By Haras de Colleville's Kendargent, the sire of Morando and Goken, Skalleti is the third foal from Muhaymin, a relation to three useful winners herself.

The Aga Khan's Valia kicked off proceedings with a gritty success in the Qatar Prix Chaudenay, seeing off the Godolphin-owned Golden Horn colt Nemean Lion.

The first foal out of Dansili mare Veda, runner-up in the French 1,000 Guineas, she is by the mighty Sea The Stars and related to a number of winners including the Listed-placed Nathaniel filly Vadalda.

At Hoppergarten, the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin went the way of the tough Torquator Tasso, a son of Adlerflug who was pressed on both sides by DiCaprio, also by Adlerflug, and Pivotal's son Kaspar, who was third.

Adlerflug is sire of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe plunge horse In Swoop, who should be among those coping better with the heavy conditions at Longchamp on Sunday.
