Palace Pier half-brother leads Highclere Stud's star-studded team at Tattersalls
The Highland Reel colt is part of a 'very strong draft'
Highclere Stud has enjoyed a phenomenal year on the track with former graduate Palace Pier lighting up the European mile division, and hopes are high his Highland Reel half-brother can represent the team just as well at Tattersalls Book 1 next month.
The son of Kingman realised 600,000gns to John Gosden at Newmarket's premier sale in 2018, and has cemented his stud credentials with dominant wins in the St James's Palace Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois this summer.
With other graduates providing more big-race highlights this season, namely Golden Horde in the Commonwealth Cup and Fujaira Prince in the Ebor - who also ran an excellent race to be second in the Irish St Leger last weekend - Lady Carolyn Warren is hopeful of another good return at Tattersalls this autumn.
"We've got a very strong draft and although this year has not been easy, I'm confident we've got the horses," she said. "We just hope the buyers can see the opportunity in this moment to get value."
Of the half-brother to Palace Pier, she said: "Palace Pier has been very exciting and is an outstanding racehorse. The brother is a really good looking colt with a tremendously strong, quality head and outlook. He's got great presence and is an impressive mover.
"He's got a lovely demeanour and it's always a pleasure to work with horses like that."
There is plenty of strength in depth when it comes to the rest of Highclere's draft, and among the group is a Dubawi colt out of Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Intricately, who was purchased by the Warrens for 1.7 million guineas at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale in 2017.
Lady Warren added: "We've got three cracking Dubawi colts. Hertford Dancer's first foal is strong and a great walker, and then we've got Intricately's first foal - she was a Group 1-winning two-year-old and this colt is very typical of his sire. Black Cherry's is also very nice and her two-year-old [Little Rollright] won last weekend."
Other yearlings to note include fillies by Iffraaj and Siyouni, the latter a half-sister to Lancashire Oaks and Pretty Polly winner Horseplay, while the team have been impressed with Ribchester's first crop, of which Highclere will offer a filly out of Oh So Sharp Stakes scorer Selinka.
European champion Almanzor proved popular at Arqana's Select Sale, and Highclere have two by him in the offing, including a half-brother to the Listed-winning UAE Jewel.
Lady Warren said: "We've got two by first-season sire Almanzor, they're top-class individuals and his offspring sold very well in Arqana. He was an outstanding racehorse and the Wootton Bassett sireline seems to be on fire at the moment."
