A stallion share in Nirvana Du Berlais proved one of the highlights of the Auctav sale on Wednesday, when Spincourt Bloodstock won out with a bid of €50,000.

The six-year-old, by Martaline out of Mansonnien's daughter Katioucha, stands at Haras de la Hêtraie for the 2022 season, and the stallion share includes two covers per year included until 2024 and then one breeding right per year from 2025.

Winner of the Grade 1 Prix Cambacérès in 2019, Nirvana Du Berlais's first foals are yearlings in 2022.

Agent Antonin Pelsy said: “Nirvana Du Berlais is a son of Martaline. The first foals I saw were very good.

"Nirvana has an exceptional pedigree and is a young National Hunt stallion with a good physique. It was an opportunity to join the syndicate by betting on the future.

"The foals have size and walk very well, they have good legs. Nirvana looks like a sound stallion. It is a purchase for ambitious young breeders who have their broodmares in Normandy and who work regularly with trainer Hugo Mérienne.”

A stallion share in Haras du Hoguenet's Montmartre, meanwhile, was bought in a private sale for €7,000 by bloodstock agent Guy Petit.

Another lot in the sale which proved popular was Inflexible, runner-up on his second start at Pau who was sold €50,000.

Co-owner Amanda Zetterholm, of Ecurie de Roebeck, struck the winning bid.

The son of Tirwanako was bought by a British owner and will be trained there.

“Inflexible will run in long-distance chases, he has the profile for that," said Zetterholm.

David Cottin was trainer and co-owner of Rosa Kleb, who has been running with some promise at Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Cottin bought back the four-year-old filly for €30,000, the feeling being that she will improve throughout 2022.

Speaking after a sale which also offered trotters, Arnaud Angeliaume, managing director of Auctav, said: “We are happy to see that the commercially attractive lots have been successful, such as Nirvana Du Berlais and our two National Hunt wildcards, Inflexible and Rosa Kleb.

"The broodmare lots did not meet their market. It is nevertheless important to offer quality broodmares, and Auctav will continue its efforts in this sector.”

The next Auctav sale will take place on Wednesday, March 30.
