Mohaather heads young Shadwell roster at reduced fee of £15,000
The three-strong team is completed by high-class sprinters Tasleet and Eqtidaar
Last year's Sussex Stakes winner and exciting young sire Mohaather heads the three-strong 2022 roster at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud, where he will stand for a reduced fee of £15,000.
A Group winner at two for Marcus Tregoning before landing the Greenham Stakes at three and then the Sussex and Summer Mile Stakes at four, Mohaather retired last term as the highest-rated son of Showcasing.
The five-year-old covered a high-class book of 146 mares in his first season, with strong home support including dual Group 1 winner Nazeef and Asheerah, the dam of Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Awtaad and exciting stakes-winning filly Mehnah.
On Mohaather's fee being cut from an initial £20,000, Tom Pennington, nominations and marketing manager at Shadwell, said: “We’ve taken the decision to reduce Mohaather’s fee for 2022 in recognition of the fact there is a significant premium placed upon first-season sires in the commercial market, and that stallions entering their second year need to be competitively priced to reflect that reality.
“There is no question, considering how high stallion fees are across the board now, that £15,000 rates fantastic value. Mohaather was an exceptional winner of the Sussex Stakes, showing a lethal turn of foot so rarely seen in milers, and he was also a Group winner at two and three.
"He was given fantastic support from a diverse cross-section of breeders this year and consequently covered a strong book of mares. We're really looking forward to welcoming his first foals in 2022.”
Also on the roster are high-class sprinters Tasleet and Eqtidaar, who will each stand for an unchanged fee of £5,000.
Tasleet, who is out of a half-sister to the dam of Battaash, has had his first crop of yearlings go through the sales rings this year, selling for up to 80,000gns. Buyers have included Robson Aguiar, Karl Burke, Dave Loughnane, Johnny Murtagh and Archie Watson.
Pennington said: “Tasleet’s first yearlings have sold exceptionally well. I was thrilled they averaged ten times his year-one fee at Book 2. When you consider the many successful agents and trainers who have been buying them, the stallion appears to hold every chance of getting off to an excellent start with his two-year olds in 2022."
He continued: “Eqtidaar has some superb foals on the ground, and we look forward to seeing how they are received at this year’s foal sales.
"He’s the ideal choice for commercial breeders: he was a Group 1-winning sprinter, he's by a proven sire of sires in Invincible Spirit and is out of arguably one of Shadwell’s best producers in Madany.”
The stallions will be available to view at Beech House Stud in Newmarket during the Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sales.
