Medaglia D'Oro son Earnshaw takes up stud duty at Haras des Granges

Earnshaw, formerly a talented two-year-old for Godolphin, will become the first son of Medaglia D'Oro at stud in Europe when he starts his second career at Haras des Granges in France next year.

The eight-year-old Darley homebred won the Prix Thomas Bryon and finished second in the Criterium International at two, while he notched second placings in the Prix Greffulhe and a Clairefontaine Listed contest at three.

He later raced in Dubai for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, for whom he took second in the Dubai Millennium Stakes and third in the Al Rashidiya and Zabeel Mile, all Group 2s.

Earnshaw is a half-brother to Supreme Stakes winner Lockwood out of Emily Bronte, a Group 3-winning daughter of Machiavellian and Blandford Stakes winner Zafadola.

Medaglia D'Oro has distinguished himself as one of the leading sires in North America, with 25 Group/Grade 1 winners worldwide to his name including celebrities such as Elate, Mshawish, Rachel Alexandra, Songbird and Talismanic.

The man behind Earnshaw's addition to the roster at Haras des Granges is Marc Semirot, who also oversaw the acquisition of Walk In The Park to the stud, where he conceived jumps superstars Douvan and Min before his sale back to Coolmore.

He naturally hopes history will repeat itself, and told Jour de Galop: “I hope Earnshaw makes as many small breeders as happy as Walk In The Park did, and that everyone who missed the earlier stallion won't pass up the chance to use the newcomer, even if they seem to have different profiles.

“Earnshaw was more precocious and shone over shorter distances than Walk In The Park. I must really thank Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum for entrusting the horse to us.”

Earnshaw is being introduced to breeders at a fee of €3,000.
